The Diocese of Brentwood is seeking to appoint a talented Deputy Director to join a newly established and still evolving education department. The rapidly changing educational landscape makes this an exciting time to join the education team as it develops to address the needs of Diocesan schools and Catholic education. The post of Deputy Director affords the successful candidate a high-profile and influential role at a time of significant change. It is essential that candidates have a strong record of successful leadership and management in the field of education. 

The Diocese of Brentwood is committed to the provision of high quality Catholic schools. In pursuit of this, the Deputy Director will work closely with the Director of Education in support of the strategic development, promotion and effectiveness of Catholic education in the Diocese. A practising and committed Catholic with a good knowledge of Catholic schools and colleges and a clear understanding of the church’s mission in education. The successful applicant will: 

• be an experienced and effective leader and manager with a proven track record, good interpersonal skills and be able to work independently and as a valued member of a new and evolving team; 

• have a detailed knowledge and understanding of education policy, and the ability to present policies and objectives to a range of audiences, including the Bishop and Trustees, schools, clergy and local authorities; 

• be involved in identifying with the Director the precise areas of responsibility depending on ability, experience and the needs of the department; 

• provide high quality advice on a range of Catholic education issues, within the Canon law, legal and educational framework in which the schools operate

Salary range: from £60,000 to £65,000 (FTE) according to experience. A DBS Disclosure will be required for this position.

Interviews are likely to be held on Thursday 25th or Friday 26th May 2017.

Start Date: From 1st January 2018 or earlier depending on contractual arrangements.

The Diocese of Brentwood has 93 schools, of which 18 are secondary schools.  Brentwood Diocese is adopting an innovative and entrepreneurial approach to the constant changes within education and is working to develop a skilled and professional staff team, which will provide additional support and high quality services to its schools and play an active role in national bodies concerned with Catholic Education.
