Job overview

Looking for a fresh challenge and a fulfilling vocation?

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Southwark covers all of London south of the Thames and all of Kent.  We have 167 schools, 33 secondary and 132 primary schools, two all-through schools and two sixth form colleges.  The vast majority of the schools are state schools and 52 are in some form of academy.

The mission of the Education Commission is to preserve and support Catholic education within the Archdiocese, enabling the Kingdom of God to flourish in the hearts and minds of the young people in its care.

This is a time of unprecedented change. The Education Commission is embarking upon significant internal reorganisation: simplifying structures and providing the resources to meet the challenge of a new 10 year strategy, a move towards financial self-sufficiency and integration with the central diocesan services in SE1. At a national level, the Education Commission is also heavily involved with the planning and roll out of a new National Framework for Denominational Inspection under s48 which launches in 2021.

We are looking for someone with an interesting range of experiences to complement what we already have: it may well be that you surprise us! You may already have a good grounding in Catholic Theology, or perhaps an understanding of Canon Law as it applies to schools. Most importantly, you must be an enabler, a completer-finisher, quick on the uptake, unflappable under pressure, and be credible in front of our school leaders.

It is essential that you come with previous experience of senior leadership in Catholic schools, school governance and in inspection activity - S5, 8 or 48.

We require you to have a full Driving Licence together with a willingness to work flexibly and, on occasions, anti-social hours.

You must also be a practising Catholic.

So if you are seeking a fresh challenge, have a clear and deep sense of vocation and want to enrich the lives of children and young people, we would love to hear from you.

In the first instance please contact Liam Dowds, our Emmaus Leadership Advising Consultant who is leading this recruitment process for us, in complete confidence on 07961 375 759 or ldowds@emmausleadership.me.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Criminal Records Bureau.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

The Diocesan Commission for Schools and Colleges exists to assist the Church in the Diocese in its education mission by providing a network of schools and helping them to be effective in the delivery of Catholic education.

It does this by:

- assisting the Trustees in the formation of education policy and its implementation;
- administering the appointment of foundation governors in Diocesan schools;
- on behalf of the Archbishop, advising schoools and colleges on religious education;
- representing schools to the Catholic Education Service, the LEAs and the DfES; providing advice and training for governors, teachers and priests on a wide range of educational issues.
