This is a great opportunity for an ambitious, talented and hardworking teacher, to lead Emanuel's academic strategy and operations as Deputy Head: Academic.

The school's academic outcomes have shown sustained and positive change. The school has sought to enhance the breadth of its curriculum, not only focusing on the middle and sixth form, but also introducing courses in philosophy, moral debate and social entrepreneurship in the lower school. The fully co-ed pupil population is now just over 1000, with 300 in the sixth form from September. 

As Deputy Head: Academic, you will be key in ensuring the effective day to day running of the school, in support of the Headmaster and alongside other members of the senior management team. You will have strategic overview of the academic side of the school, including curriculum, timetabling, GCSE and A level choices and managing the performance review process of all academic departments.

Having a desire for future headship and with a proven track-record, the best applicants will demonstrate an ability to lead effectively, improve outcomes and create a positive, inspiring culture. The right applicant will also quickly gain the confidence of the governing body and whole-school community. There will be an expectation that the post holder plays a part in the wider life of the school and is an outstanding classroom teacher.

Welcome to Emanuel. We are a fully co-ed school of over 1000 pupils, aged 10-18, with over 200 teaching and support staff colleagues.

We are an ambitious community. This summer, 87% of grades at GCSE were awarded 9-7, which is a lift of 37% across recent years. Our A Level A*-A percentage is 53%. This is 20% higher than in 2018 and the school is now recognised as one of the best for academic outcomes in the country. The recent ISI Inspection report noted that: “Pupils make excellent progress across the range of subjects and significant value is added to their academic outcomes.”

We are committed to developing all our major sports and value pupil participation as well as team and individual achievement. The school’s critical build plan will see a significant investment in our on and off-site sports facilities across the next 3-4 years. The same site plan will support the outstanding creative and performing arts teaching at the school, as the school’s plans for a large specialist science teaching block will also allow us to improve our facilities for music and drama, both areas of traditional strength. We were delighted that these areas were recognised in last year’s Independent School of the Year Awards when we won the award for our performing arts.

Beyond the classroom, we have a thriving partnerships programme, helping to develop our pupils at all ages as they participate in this work, and benefiting the local community, with over 1000 primary school children coming to use our site and work with our pupils each month. In 2021 we won the Independent School of the Year Award for our community outreach work.
