About us:

Inscape House School is an ASC specialist day school for children and young people aged 5 to 19 years. It is part of the Together Trust, a charity that has been providing care, education and support in the North West of England since 1870.

We now have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and aspirational practitioner to join this well established and recognised special needs school for young people with autism. The post holder will be a member of the senior leadership team at Inscape House School.

As Deputy Headteacher, you will support the Headteacher in leading our lower school provision to meet the needs of our youngest pupils, ensuring they achieve their academic and personal potential. In partnership with the Headteacher you will deliver strong and supportive leadership, collaborating with our multidisciplinary team and embedding the school’s vision throughout our lower school aims and objectives, to develop appropriate learning opportunities for our children

About the role:

  • Working at a Deputy Head level you will be responsible for leadership and organisation of an innovative and sequential curriculum across Lower School, improving teaching and learning, raising achievement and securing pupil progress through ensuring quality first teaching and multi-disciplinary working for all our lower school students.
  • You will lead on a significant area of whole-school improvement; curriculum, assessment, staff development or teaching and learning. There will also be occasions when you will deputise in the absence of the Headteacher.
  • You will play a key leadership role in developing staff skills and knowledge by delivering effective continuing professional development (CPD) to your team and across the wider school. As a result, staff will deliver strategies to remove barriers to learning and raise achievement, so that all pupils surpass expectations.
  • You will uphold and model the school’s and Trust’s principles, policies, aims and values, taking an active lead in encouraging students to achieve high standards and promote independence and self-confidence.

About You:

  • Educated to degree level with Qualified Teacher Status you will be familiar and confident with how young people with autism learn as well as enjoy leading and getting the best out of a team.
  • Proven track record of effective performance management of teaching and support staff resulting in improved pupil outcomes.
  • Management experience within an ASC or SEND education setting.
  • Teaching experience working with pupils with ASC.
  • Significant leadership and management experience.
  • Success in raising student achievement through staff development.
  • Experience of promoting school activities within a community.
  • Excellent understanding and use of assessment for learning approaches, including target setting and tracking.
  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people in line with ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’.

The interview will take place on one day and consist of a presentation, task an interview in front of a panel. Deadline for applications is 9am on Friday 30th April, followed by shortlisting on the same day. Interviews are scheduled for Monday 10th May. Expected start date is 1st September 2021
