Job overview

This is a unique opportunity to join a highly individual school who recognise that struggle and failure are the key to success in learning. 

We are looking for a strong leader with an interest and passion for SEN. The school are prepared to consider somebody who has not yet gained their SENCO qualification but is willing to gain it over the next couple of years

Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing      the day-to-day operation of the school’s SEN policy.
  • Supporting      the identification of children with special educational needs.
  • Co-ordinating      provision for children with SEN.
  • Liaising      with parents of children with SEN.
  • Liaising      with other providers, outside agencies, educational psychologists and      external agencies.
  • Ensuring      that the school keeps the records of all pupils with SEN up to date.

Serving around 600 pupils, West Thornton Primary Academy is a co-educational primary school in Croydon, South London. Founded in 1896, the school provides places for children aged 4-11 and became an academy in 2011. 

West Thornton Primary Academy is part of The Synaptic Trust, a multi-academy trust founded in 2013. The trust is responsible for the running of six local schools at mainly primary level. Owing to its location, West Thornton Primary Academy has a large and diverse catchment area.
