The White House Prep seeks to appoint a passionate, hard-working and organised Deputy Head to take up appointment in September 2018.
The School
The White House Prep is a close-knit Independent Co-Ed school from 2½ - 11 yrs. With small classes we are committed to high academic standards and encouraging a love of learning.
Purpose of job
In addition to the duties of a class teacher, to be responsible for the planning, teaching and learning within the school; to be accountable for standards across the school; to liaise with key stage leaders where necessary; to ensure continuity and progression throughout the curriculum. They will ensure the smooth running of the school and contribute to initiatives to improve/develop the school’s response to Government legislation and children’s services guidelines.

S/he will be an effective professional who challenges and supports all pupils to do their best through: inspiring trust and confidence, building team commitment, engaging and motivating pupils, showing analytical thinking, taking positive action to improve the quality of pupils’ learning.
Job description
Assume responsibility for the management of the school in the absence of the Head
Work with the Head and the Assistant Head in providing a clear direction for the development of the school
Contribute fully to the process involved in writing, delivering and reviewing the School Development Plan and to support the Head in implementing the plan and to work with the Head and Assistant Head in monitoring its effectiveness across the school
Work collaboratively with the Head, Assistant Head and Senior Leadership Team to fulfil the school aims and ethos and to contribute fully to all school development, leadership and management matters
Work alongside the Head and Assistant Head in ensuring that all pupils have the best possible care, have access to an extensive curriculum and achieve the highest standards in line with the ethos of the school
Lead on initiatives throughout the school in order to push innovation and drive the school forward in developing the best outcomes for learners
Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons for whom we are responsible and with whom you come into contact
Oversee the smooth running of all school events, such as sports day, concerts & open mornings
Support the Head as necessary with the production of all policy documents
Oversee the production, with the support of the Assistant Head, of handbooks and guides for staff and parents
Offer full support to all staff with preparation for inspections
Promote and maintain a culture of positive attitudes, collaboration and high expectation
Be responsible in conjunction with the SLT to set agendas for INSET and training
Work with the Head to develop and oversee all teacher and teaching assistant timetables, ensuring each subject receives an appropriate allocation of time
Develop an individual mentoring programme for new members of staff; this programme will develop specific targets for the individual member of staff and allow them to raise any concerns they may have
Develop a programme to provide mentoring support to the Assistant Head
Help implement school discipline and procedures, dealing with serious and persistent problems and keeping all relevant groups informed
Act as an example of the highest standards, providing guidance for other teachers to deliver aims, policies and practice
Be responsible for the good timekeeping of staff and children, setting a good personal example in this respect
Be fully involved with monitoring the quality of teaching and learning throughout the school utilising the school monitoring cycle, regular lesson observations and learning walks and offer feedback and targets
Promote and lead the sharing and celebration of good practice throughout the school
Teaching and Learning
Undertake an appropriate programme of teaching which involves being a class teacher and as such be a role model of best practice to colleagues
Be a lead practitioner in establishing creative and effective approaches to teaching and learning
Be instrumental in setting high standards of teaching and behaviour for pupils
