Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for an inspiring, committed and dynamic individual to join the College as a highly influential Senior Deputy Head from either January or April 2018.

The role will provide an ideal grounding for headship and the successful candidate will play a genuinely central role in the strategic development of a thriving coeducational boarding and day school at a time when the Headmaster and Board of Governors are wholly committed to a vision of excellence, investment and growth.

The finer specifics of the job description can be adapted to suit both those with experience, skills and interests in the pastoral domain (e.g. housemaster/housemistress, Head of Year, Head of Sixth Form) and those from a teaching and learning leadership background (e.g. Head of Department, Director of Studies).

The new Deputy Head will be joining the College at a most exciting time with rising pupil numbers, national recognition in sport, the creation of additional facilities including a new Sixth Form girls' house to accommodate our boarding expansion and a new astroturf pitch.

The beautiful location of Scarborough is an ideal place in which to raise a family and the College's generous remission on fees for its employees across both the prep and senior schools will make independent education very accessible for the post-holder's children.

Scarborough College is a coeducational independent boarding and day school for pupils aged from 3 to 18 situated in the beautiful seaside town of Scarborough, North Yorkshire. It has delivered the International Baccalaureate Diploma within the Sixth Form since June 2006. There are three sections to the College journey: the Pre-school, the Prep and the Senior School.

The Scarborough College Company was founded in 1896 as a boarding school for boys. In 1972, it opened its doors to female students and presently educates approximately 400 pupils.  The campus is situated only 15 minutes from the beach in the South Cliff area and the College enjoys excellent facilities.

Values and Vision

Above all, our commitment is to discover and fully realise every child’s potential by ensuring that all pupils are seen as individuals whose specific needs are recognised and met.  We are dedicated to providing a far-reaching education that goes beyond the boundaries of the classroom, underpinned by strong lifelong values, which inspires academic excellence and ensures pupils are challenged. Regular opportunities to understand their own capabilities through exposure to a broad range of sporting, cultural and creative activities, widens our pupils’ horizons and builds their self‑confidence.  Within our outward-facing, grounded and caring community the relationships that exist nurture tolerant, honest and compassionate people who will make a genuine difference in their futures beyond the confines of our school.

Ofsted

“Pupils achieve well in a school that they like. Pupils make good progress in the EYFS, the junior school and the senior school. Results in the GCSE, which have generally improved over recent years, show that pupils make good progress and sixth form pupils also attain good results in the International Baccalaureate (IB). Factors contributing to the pupils’ achievement are the very good attitudes to work which pupils bring to the classroom and the good teaching they receive.”
