An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Head of Education to work within our Independent Specialist School. Within our school settings, our ethos is to ensure our children and young people have receive educational opportunities and acquire knowledge and skills, i.e. Numeracy, Literature and IT Skills, as well as developing personal and life skills that will support them through to adult life. You should be passionate for children`s and young people`s well-being and have a caring and patient nature.

We are looking for an engaging and positive Deputy Head to join our Peterborough service where we support children and young people aged between 9 – 19 years with a range of disabilities and primarily a diagnosis of autism, many of whom have additional disabilities, with a particular specialism in developing communication and social skills through a therapeutically informed approach.

Main Responsibilities:

·      To deputise for the Head of Education in their absence

·      To carry out duties of the post in line with the job description

·      To support the Head of Education in ensuring that the aims and objectives of the school are clearly defined, shared with school staff and achieved

·      Proactively manage staff and resources across all curriculum areas

·      Take responsibility for ensuring the safeguarding of students in our school and to report any safeguarding concerns to the safeguarding lead

·      Report all child protection issues in a timely manner

·      To complete tasks and duties as requested, appropriate to the role

Further Duties:

·      In partnership with the Head of Education, ensure that an ambitious vision for the school is created and implemented

·      Play a significant role in the school improvement process and action plan

·      Lead by example to motivate and challenge the staff team, particularly in implementing change

·      Promote the British Values across the curriculum

Teaching and Learning:

·      Be an excellent role model to all staff by demonstrating the highest standards of teaching and expectations

·      Work closely with the Head of Education to complete Learning Walks and Lesson Observations following the monitoring schedule

·      Manage the supervisions of assigned staff to contribute to the monitoring of staff welfare

·      Provide constructive and productive lesson feedback to staff in a timely manner

·      Lead training sessions for the staff team as requested to utilise experience and knowledge

·      Be prepared to undertake further learning for the role, as requested

·      Support the Head of Education in monitoring standards of achievement and feedback to relevant agencies as appropriate

·      Work with the Head of Education to ensure that schemes of work across the curriculum are challenging and appropriate for our learners, seeking cross curricular links where appropriate

Developing Self and Others:

·      Support the development of collaborative learning across the school

·      Contribute to the induction of new staff members

·      Contribute to the induction year of any newly qualified teachers and supervision of any students observing as part of work experience

·      Participate in the interview process for new staff, as requested

The School Community

·      Liaise with parents and carers to strengthen communication between home and school

·      Provide a professional supportive role for staff at all times to promote successful working relationships

·      Liaise with professional bodies when requested or required

·      Promote the positive involvement of parents and carers in school life

·      Attend and, where relevant, lead meetings to establish a clear outcome
