ABOUT CATS College CAMBRIDGE 

CATS College offers an outstanding international pre-university educational experience to students aged 14+ from all over the world. CATS students live and work at the custom built Cambridge campus, studying for GCSEs, A levels and University Foundation Programmes, and preparing for admission to universities across the country and elsewhere.  

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB

In general:

  • Ensure the smooth running of the boarding house generally, in accordance with the student handbook to maintain a friendly, welcoming and happy environment
  • Co-ordinate a crisis management plan while on duty, informing relevant emergency services and senior leaders of events and documenting thoroughly
  • Act as the appointed Fire Marshall when on duty, and appoint a Fire Marshall when away from  the house
  • Attend termly induction and boarding meetings
  • During the period of Summer School, undertake duties as directed by the Head of House, in particular be the point of contact for School Of English/Stafford House Study Holidays summer managers

In respect of staff:

  • While deputising for the Head of House lead and manage the House Parent Team to ensure the successful implementation of procedures in the boarding house/s
  • Induct new residential staff to their duties and the house/s
  • Line Manage the Day Supervisor/s in the house/s
  • Provide administrative support for the Head of House as requested
  • Assist the Head of House with the appointment of junior boarding staff

In respect of students:

  • Monitor the students’ welfare and behaviour and report any problems in the house to the Head of House or the Welfare team and report more serious problems to the Principal
  • Report any worries concerns or breaches of discipline via the College database (Shackleton) and to the appropriate staff immediately
  • Report and follow up any missing students to the police as per the College’s missing person’s policy
  • Report any student who is not back in time at night or who leaves without an Exeat, in accordance with the Student Handbook
  • Ensure that student exeats/courtesy slips are properly checked, recorded and managed
  • Work with the team of boarding staff to ensure every student is up in the morning ready for breakfast by leaving the house/ residence in plenty of time
  • Manage a supervised study time when on shift 
  • Issue keys/cards as each boarding house requires
  • Help with student arrivals, student induction and departures when required
  • Arrange regular meetings with the students in the boarding house
  • Ensure a visible presence in College at all times when on duty, especially at student break times
  • Ensure all students are fully inducted upon arrival in accordance with the Staff Handbook and Student Handbook

  • Meng Ma (May), from China, studied A-levels and graduated last year. She achieved AAAA and is now studying Economics at Pennsylvania State University, USA (ranked 3rd nationally for undergraduate business specialities).
  • Masoud Hasounizadeh (Nima), from Iran, is studying A-level Music with us now and has just been commissioned by the BBC to compose background music for popular Persian entertainment show "Kook".
  • Four very different students with very different futures ahead of them - all successful but more importantly, happy in the choices they have made, and confident about their future.
