The Gilberd School is a co-educational, non-denominational secondary with academy status in Colchester, Essex. At the most recent inspection, there were 1,350 students on the school roll, aged 11-16. 

The Gilberd School opened in 1912 and acquired academy status in September 2012. It is named for Dr William Gilberd, a Colchester native who was a medical adviser to Queen Elizabeth I and is known as the "father of electricity". The secondary school's extensive physical education facilities are let out to Highwoods Sport Centre on evenings and weekends.

The Gilberd School is characterised by a positive learning environment and excellent relationships between staff and pupils. The secondary school aims to ensure students leave not only with the best exam results possible, but also with the skills and attributes they need to succeed in their adult lives.

The curriculum is ambitious, with an emphasis on English, Maths and Science and the other English Baccalaureate subjects (Geography, History, French and German). The Gilberd School ensures that students have the opportunity to develop character and creativity through a range of artistic and practical courses, as well as through a diverse programme of extra-curricular activities.
