Brighton College Vietnam is seeking an inspirational and ambitious Deputy Head of Senior School (Academic) to lead all aspects of secondary education. This is an exciting opportunity for an educationalist with proven senior leadership experience to shape the development of the school. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring that the educational offering aligns with the Brighton College commitment to building a world-class academic institution, distinctive in its own right but with the Brighton College DNA at its core. The Deputy Head (Academic) will be a key member of the Senior School Leadership Team. They will report to the Head of College, and will have a reduced timetable, commensurate with their responsibilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for the pedagogical leadership of the school curriculum and for ensuring that the IB Learner Profile is embedded within all teaching practice in the Senior School. They will demonstrate a strong track record of delivering top academic results at IGCSE/IBDP. About the role Deputy Head of Senior School (Academic)
Key responsibilities
- Deliver an outstanding educational experience for pupils from Year 7 to Year 13 that aligns with the school's vision to be the top school for academic results in Hanoi.
- Promote excellence, creativity and innovation in all areas of the curriculum.
- Lead a data-driven approach to tracking pupils’ progress across all year groups and at all stages.
- Implement a rigorous process for assessment, recording and reporting in order to ensure that data is constantly being used to inform teaching and learning strategies and to improve pupil progress and achievement.
- Establish a culture of academic accountability throughout the whole College and deliver academic success, particularly at IGCSE and IB.
- Line-manage Heads of Departments to encourage innovative teaching practice consistent with the school’s vision.
- Ensure internal and external exams are run efficiently and in accordance with all exam regulations.
- Work with the Prep School Leadership Team to ensure there is consistency in monitoring systems to manage a smooth transition from Year 6 to Year 7.
- Oversee suitable academic extension programmes within the curriculum and co-curriculum.
- Produce an annual update of all school policies and documentation in relation to the academic curriculum, teaching and learning, and assessment.
- Run academic information events for pupils and parents and oversee parents’ evenings.
- Work with the Head of Admissions in order to ensure that there is a rigorous admissions process for entry to the Senior School.
- Contribute to the collection and dissemination of all information relating to the College for the purposes of marketing and communication.
- Work with the DHA in the Prep School to design and construct the timetable.
- Support the Head with the implementation of an effective appraisal and review system for teaching staff and departments.
- Contribute to the strategic planning of the whole College and to the wider work of the Senior Leadership Team.
- Support the Head in the growth of the Sixth Form and Senior School and deputise for the Head in their absence.
- Support the Head of College to recruit and retain the very best teaching talent.
- Contribute to the highest standards of safeguarding and pastoral care.
- Demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development.
- Demonstrate commitment to networking and sharing good practice across the Brighton College family of schools.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education or related field, with PGCE or equivalent.
- A proven record of outstanding secondary leadership, both at middle and senior leadership levels..
- Expert knowledge or experience of successfully delivering IGCSEs and the IBDP.
- Proven track record of working effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders
- Superb writing and speaking abilities
Qualifications
- International experience (preferable but not essential for the right candidate).
- NPQH or Master’s in Education (preferable but not essential for the right candidate).
