Deputy Head Pastoral

Cumnor House SussexDanehill, Haywards Heath, RH17 7HT, Mid Sussex

Cumnor House Sussex is a leading independent prep school offering day and flexi-boarding to 350 girls and boys aged between 2 and 13. We are a traditional but forward-thinking family school, with an ethos built on Christian values, creating a safe and unhurried childhood for active and ambitious children. The School provides every aspect of a broad and excellent education within beautiful country surroundings.

With the decision of the current Deputy Head to step aside after twenty years in that role, the Headmaster, Fergus Llewellyn, who joined Cumnor House Sussex in August 2020, is taking the opportunity to reorganise the School’s leadership structure. He is looking to appoint two new Deputy Heads to join in September 2021, one overseeing academic matters, and the other pastoral matters and safeguarding. The successful candidates will support the Headmaster as part of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), which will include the Bursar and the Head of Pre-Prep.

These are exciting and important times for the School, as it looks to enhance its reputation as one of the top independent prep schools in the South of England.  Key to that journey will be the appointment of a Deputy Head Pastoral who will lead the school in maintaining and developing the very high standards already established in its safeguarding and wellbeing programs, while providing a strong and dynamic lead in fostering a community of compassion, self-awareness and improvement. The successful candidate will be seeking a fresh professional challenge, and probably headship beyond.

Applications are invited from teachers of all subjects. You are asked to provide the Headmaster with a letter of application (up to two sides of A4), with a completed application form. The letter should offer a personal and individual insight into your experience and aspirations.

Further details can be found on the School’s website:
