Wellington is both a day and boarding school and experience in both of these environments is essential.


As a member of the School’s Leadership Team, the Deputy Head (Pastoral) will be expected to support the Head and wider team in determining and implementing strategic and operational whole- school issues. They will assist in the formulation and delivery of the School Development Plan.


The Deputy Head (Pastoral) has overall responsibility for the pastoral care, wellbeing and behaviour of pupils at Wellington School. They work with the Head of Wellington Prep School to support pastoral care in the Prep School as required. In conjunction with the Deputy Head (Academic) and Deputy Head (Co-Curricular), they ensure the smooth running of the School on a day-to-day basis. The Deputy Head (Pastoral) will be expected to teach, but their load is reduced in line with the significant responsibilities of the position.

Wellington School is a Church of England denominational, co-educational, day and boarding school in Somerset. As of the most recent inspection, there were 900 pupils on the school roll. The school’s motto is the opening of Psalm 127; ‘If God Be Not With Us, Our Labour is in Vain’. The Senior School teaches pupils between the ages of 11-18. The school also offers preparatory facilities from the ages of 3 onwards. Founded in 1837 as a boys school, Wellington has been fully independent and co-educational since 1978. The 35 acre site is a combination of traditional and more recent architecture. The school operates in both a boarding and day capacity.
