Job overview

Finding the Brilliance in every Child.   Find your own brilliance too!

Aberdour is one of the country’s most exciting prep schools. Its motto is “Finding the Brilliance in Every Child”, and its success in doing this means that there is always plenty going on.

One of the reasons for its success is its PAL approach to education (Personalised Achievement Learning), which allows it to give each child highly individualized experiences. PAL helps pupils to find their particular brilliance and includes flexible timetabling, an innovative curriculum which highlights lifelong learning skills, sophisticated pupil tracking and education management, and an exceptionally wide range of extra-curricular and personal development options.

Aberdour has achieved national recognition for PAL and has also won awards for its use of advanced technology at all levels in the school. Its Innovation Centre is a state-of-the-art hub for creativity, with sophisticated resources that are normally only found in top senior schools.

Most importantly, Aberdour is an extremely happy school where children, staff and parents revel in great relationships and a cheerful, buzzy atmosphere. Laughter starts in the car park and it’s often coming from the parents, as well as from the children and the staff.

We’re now looking for a Deputy Head to take over from Tracy Thomas, who is retiring this summer. The role is a broad one with a main focus on leading and managing PAL, the academic curriculum and teaching and learning, particularly from Year 2 upwards. Its broader responsibilities will make it a really fascinating post that will give the successful candidate plenty of scope, stimulation and job satisfaction.

The ideal candidate will be a current Deputy or a strong aspiring Deputy.  You’ll have solid academic management experience and a broad background in a busy prep or primary school. You’ll be enthusiastic, dynamic, up for new ideas, and keen to achieve your own maximum potential as well as that of your pupils.

To apply, please download the briefing brochure and the application form and return completed applications to admin@aberdourschool.co.uk

Closing date for applications: 11 am on Monday 17th February 2020.

Interviews: First interviews will take place on March 3rd and 4th.
Final interviews will take place on March 17th and 18th.

Aberdour School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Overview

Founded in 1922, Aberdour is one of Surrey's leading independent preparatory schools, catering for 370 girls and boys aged 2 - 11 years and situated in 12 acres of beautiful countryside. The school is superbly resourced and equipped and offers excellent pay and conditions, small class sizes and many opportunities for professional development.

About Us

Aberdour is a thriving community where boys and girls, aged 2 to 11, benefit from learning, playing and growing together in a caring and safe environment. Small classes ensure that each pupil is supported. Through our uniquely designed PAL curriculum, at Aberdour, every child has the opportunity to shine. Children are encouraged to achieve their potential, whilst never being afraid of ‘having a go’ or of asking for help whenever they may need it – in or out of the classroom.

Being an Aberdorian means being part of our School family – a family that will always be there to support your child. The number of ex-pupils who return to visit tells us that this is still felt by them long after they have left the School. There is a saying, ‘Do not confine your children to your own learning, for they were born in another time’. We never forget that we are preparing children for a modern world. Growing up today can be confusing and complex; at our School we provide children with the relevant learning and support required to face the challenges ahead.

It is our belief that every child who walks through our doors has brilliance within them.  It is our aim to find and nurture that brilliance and celebrate, as a whole community, the success of every child.  Please read our Personalised Achievement Learning (P.A.L) webpage to see how we will achieve this for our children.
