Job overview

Following the decision of Rowena Watts, our current Deputy Head Teacher, to move on after over 12 years of excellent service, Burwell Village College Primary School is seeking to appoint a dynamic and inspirational Deputy Head Teacher.  We strive to achieve a balance between high academic standards and the all-round development of the children in our care.  We provide a broad and balanced education, carefully tailored to deliver the requirements of the National Curriculum, whilst meeting the needs of all of our pupils.  In addition, we offer a growing number of opportunities for children to develop individual talents outside the classroom.

We take great care to provide a secure and stimulating environment within which children can develop towards the full extent of their ability.  We believe in a purposeful and disciplined approach to learning, where children show respect for their school and all within its community. The school was last inspected by Ofsted in March 2018 and praised the personal development and behaviour of pupils along with the provision in Early Years. Overall the school achieved ‘Requiring Improvement’.  An Interim Executive Board (IEB) was put in place from July 2018, comprising former primary leaders and senior officers from the Local Authority. The school is now on a trajectory back to ‘Good’.

You will have good collaborative skills; be well organised; adaptable; creative and most of all, committed to ensuring the very best education for children.  As a result, you will command the confidence of all our staff.  This appointment is a critical one in the further development of BVCPS and will therefore be an excellent opportunity for an experienced middle or senior leader to pay a key role in this journey.

For further information and an application pack, please speak to Karen Taylor, School Manager or visit our website www.burwellvillage.cambs.sch.uk for all related paperwork.  Applications should include a covering letter of no more than two sides of A4 and a completed Employment Application Form.  The person specification sets out the areas that you will need to cover in your letter of application.  In addition, you should state what you believe you bring to the school and can contribute to the team at Burwell Village College Primary School.

Visits are welcome (please contact the school) and potential applicants are also encouraged to ask for an informal discussion with the IEB before submitting an application. Please contact Dr Chris Marshall: cmarshall@burwellvillage.cambs.sch.uk

The closing date for applications is 12.00 p.m. on Monday 29th April 2019.
Interviews will be on Thursday 9th May 2019.

Burwell Village College Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  The successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced disclosure and barring service (DBS) check.
