Pioneer House High School is a new 100 place Free Special School. It forms part of the Prospere Learning Trust and was established in September 2016, for students with severe learning difficulties from 11-19 years.

The Prospere Learning Trust vision is to provide exceptional education for children from any background so that they become happy, confident adults. The Prospere Trust is committed to fully comprehensive education and working in and around Greater Manchester to provide inspiring, memorable schooling for all its students.

Pioneer House High School has a focus on developing Enterprise, Employability and Independence Skills with our pupils; as a result of rapid expansion we require an additional deputy head teacher, with aspirations for headship, to join our successful and committed leadership team.

The appointed candidate will have proven track record in leading outstanding teaching and learning. Teamwork is a strength of the school, and we require an exceptional team leader with some experience of performance managing teachers. These are key roles in championing the highest standard of pedagogy within the classroom. The appointee will be able to lead by example and further inspire colleagues to become exemplary practitioners.

The post holder will lead on teaching and learning across school, securing the best possible outcomes for our pupils. The post holder’s curriculum responsibility will support the further development of an exciting, innovative and engaging curriculum, focusing on Enterprise, Employability and Independence skills. The post may include additional responsibilities by negotiation and may include some teaching time.

This position offers an exciting and challenging opportunity to join the inspiring and highly skilled leadership team at Pioneer House High School. The school is part of the newly established and expanding Prospere Trust. The Trust is committed to providing the very best educational opportunities for it’s students irrespective of background or ability, in both mainstream and special schools. The post will be based at Pioneer House however planned expansion of the school and Trust will provide further Leadership opportunities in the future. It is essential that you:

  • have experience of leading a team on a whole school development area and can demonstrate your impact,
  • are innovative in your approach to curriculum development,
  • have a proven track record of action planning and implementing for school development with evidence of impact,
  • have the initiative and drive to tackle whole school development independently,
  • have the ability to think critically, creatively and be decisive,
  • have enthusiasm and sound common sense and are relentlessly positive!

You will be evaluative, reflective and inspirational and have the ability to motivate others to take on new challenges that will enhance the curricular opportunities we offer. The successful candidate should have strong qualifications and proven experience of working in this field. You will be a 'people-person' with a gift for inspiring, leading, motivating and supporting others.

Pioneer House High School is a special school located in Northern Moor which provides 100 day places for 11 to 19 year old pupils, with a unique focus in preparing pupils with significant additional needs, to become independent and productive adults. The school has a strong vocational emphasis and pupils will have the potential to progress on to supported or independent employment/internships/apprenticeships or college.

The school was opened in 2016 and moved to a new, purpose built, site in 2017. It has a range of facilities including a one-bedroom bungalow, poly-tunnel, wooded area and play areas.

The school has been described as warm and welcoming by Ofsted, who completed their first inspection in May 2019, rating the school outstanding.
