Sedgemoor Manor School are recruiting for a Deputy Head Teacher. We are looking for an outstanding relationship builder, with a passion for providing children and young people with special needs with the best possible education. You will have knowledge of formulating the aims and objectives of the school, whilst establishing policies for achieving these aims and objectives. You will be energetic and have a strong sense of moral purpose, and the ability to inspire the team to achieve the highest standards to ensure best outcomes for pupils.

Sedgemoor Manor is a specialist day school for young people who have needs associated with a diagnosis on the autistic spectrum/SPLD and are aged between 10 and 18 years. Our tailored approach means we are able to support young people with a wide range of learning difficulties. We accept that young people who are referred to us may have previously experienced a ‘cycle of failure’ and our aim is to have a transformational impact on their lives by them experiencing a ‘culture of success’. We support all young people to achieve successful outcomes so that they can progress to experience fulfilling and rewarding lives. We offer bespoke packages of education and therapy for our young people. We strongly believe that some individuals will always struggle to ‘fit in’ to existing structures and will only thrive when their provision is tailored to their specific needs and circumstances. This is supported by a broad and varied curriculum offer including animal care; pupils at the school enjoy looking after the schools many animals, including goats and miniature ponies.

The successful candidate will have experience in supporting our young people who may have autism, emotional behavioural difficulties, ADHD and associated complex needs and supporting young people within SEN schools, along with the following characteristics:

Resilience – We support some of the most vulnerable children in society who have varying degrees of emotional behavioural difficulties, autism, ADHD and associated difficulties so there will be times where your resilience is challenged. 

Communication – Communicating with our young people is vital to understand their needs. Positive working relationships, good teamwork and communication plays a key part in ensuring important information is relayed to other staff.

Organisation – Organisation is key to ensure the safe management of both employees and resources as well as leading and directing staff through inspection processes.

Attentive – No two tasks will be the same so being attentive to understand the needs of the young people we support is vital
