Deputy Head

Kennet SchoolWest Berkshire

Are you an inspirational, highly skilled leader with a proven track record of success at senior level?  Following the successful promotion of our current postholder to HMI, we are seeking to appoint an experienced leader looking to take the next step in their career.

Kennet is an Outstanding (Ofsted 2016) co-ed comprehensive with 1,800 pupils and 250 staff and plays a pivotal role as the founding school of the Kennet School Academies Trust. We strive to be a forward-thinking, inspirational and exciting place to be as a pupil and member of staff.

Our school is underpinned by our core values whereby we aim to provide every pupil with exceptional life chances. We deliver this by offering a broad, knowledge-rich curriculum that prepares pupils to continue their journey and achieve more than they thought was possible. We believe that education is more than just results, and an education at Kennet challenges pupils to grow as individuals as well as academically, and this is supported by our exceptional House system.

Teachers at Kennet form a collaborative learning community: we share and celebrate each other’s strengths. We value the importance of research in shaping pedagogy and want our teachers to feel connected to their profession through an understanding of the most recent thinking.

As a pivotal member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will have a large responsibility with the opportunity to harness the power and commitment of our exceptional staff. No specific responsibility has been allocated but will be agreed to suit the successful applicant’s skill set. We seek a Deputy Headteacher to join our Senior Leadership Team to help shape the vision and direction of Kennet School, who is dedicated and ambitious and who aspires to headship. The Headteacher encourages a cooperative and challenging environment and is looking for someone who will thrive in this context. This role includes considerable operational as well as strategic responsibility, so requires somebody that can shift between these ways of working.

Applicants must have a strong academic track record, demonstrate the potential to be an exceptional leader and have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all key stakeholders.

The academy is considering growth opportunities locally which could create further career development for our staff at all levels.
