We are now seeking to appoint an inspiring and innovative person to play a major role under the direction of the Principal in formulating the aims and objectives of the College, establishing the policies through which they shall be achieved, managing staff and resources to achieve the aims and objectives of the College and monitoring progress towards their achievements both academically and pastorally.

The Deputy Head will have delegated responsibilities which are both college wide and of considerable weight and be part of the Senior Management Team.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Good Honours Degree
  • Experience of independent education either in the UK or overseas
  • Good knowledge of the UK secondary curriculum
  • Understanding of good pastoral practice for secondary level pupils
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity and a good understanding of its implications for the school (language issues and families from different countries)
  • Successful experience as Head of Department, or equivalent
  • Strong leadership skills: the confidence and ability to deputise for the Principal
  • Vision to contribute to the school’s future development
  • Understanding of good pastoral practice for secondary level pupils
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity and a good understanding of its implications for the school (language issues and families from different countries)
  • Effective two-way communicator
  • Genuine affection for secondary aged children, and a commitment to their learning and welfare
  • Respectful of, and interested in, other people and other cultures
  • Open-minded and receptive to ideas
  • Self-confidence in dealing with a range of stakeholders (parents, agents, other schools within the King’s Group)
  • Clear views on the values transmitted by British education

Desirable

  • Teaching qualification
  • Experience of teaching/working with pupils whose first language is not English
  • A good knowledge of the key educational issues for secondary level
  • A knowledge of and sympathy with boarding
  • Experience of educational marketing
  • Understanding of efficient resource management and value for money
  • Experience of coaching and mentoring staff
  • Ability to communicate immediate warmth
  • High level of energy
  • Wide ranging personal interests

About King’s College Saint Michaels

Set on 10 Hectares of grounds, King’s College Saint Michaels is a small, friendly, international secondary boarding school offering GCSE and A Levels, University Foundation and summer courses to students from all over the world. Specialist English language provision is provided and plays a major role in the curriculum with almost all students going on to study at universities in Britain.

Great emphasis is placed on the personal attention which we give to each student. Each member of the teaching staff acts as personal tutor to a small group of students and ensures that parents are well informed of their child’s progress.

The school is coeducational and offers the choice of residential or host family accommodation in carefully selected local families. A varied and exciting sports and social programme, including excursions, sports teams and cultural activities, is also provided.
