Job overview

Academy@Worden is a successful and popular 11-16 stand-alone secondary academy. The academy has an excellent local reputation and has been oversubscribed for a number of years. In January 2020, Worden was again judged by OFSTED to be a 'Good' school and has the best Progress 8 score of any school in the area.

Following the promotion of the Deputy Headteacher to the post of Headteacher in September 2020, the governing body expects the new Deputy Headteacher will lead on curriculum and quality assurance and continue to foster the academy’s ethos and strategic vision.

As an academy that is continually moving forward and raising the bar, the new Deputy Headteacher will show strong leadership skills and work alongside an outstanding team of senior leaders and highly motivated and enthusiastic staff, to ensure the needs of our students are met and provided with the best education.

Worden is committed to promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful applicant will need to undertake an enhanced DBS disclosure and appointment will be subject to receipt of suitable references, qualifications and identity checks.

More Information can be found at www.academyatworden.co.uk

The academy will be holding open days, giving candidates an opportunity to visit the school on Monday 10th May to Friday 14th May and we would ask candidates to make appointments should they wish to visit. Requests to visit the academy  and completed application forms, together with a letter of interest of no more than 1500 words should be directed to the Business Manager, Mark Reed, reedm@wordenacademy.co.uk .

On 1st February 2013, Worden was recognised by the Department for Education for its achievements in educational standards and became Leyland’s only Converter Academy (an academy that does not require support from a sponsor).  As Leyland’s premier academy, we are very proud of the fact that our students continually raise the bar and achieve new heights.  Worden is the only school in South Ribble to have 100% of its pupils achieving five or more A*-C grades at GCSE for two consecutive years.

Academy@Worden is an outstanding school where:

  • All pupils achieve and are recognised as unique individuals with specific talents and needs. Students only get one chance and we take very seriously our role of providing the best possible opportunities for them to gain the most from their time here.
  • Excellent teaching encourages intellectual, creative, technological and physical growth. We aim to develop our students’ ability to think independently, solve problems, communicate effectively and live happy and fulfilling lives.
  • Students are motivated and recognise the joy of achievement in a safe and orderly environment.
  • Parents are encouraged to take an active part in their child’s education and in the life of the school in general.
  • The experiences of pupils provide opportunities to become tolerant and respectful, resilient and resourceful and encourage them to develop the skills required to face the challenges of the future.
  • Students experience a range of enrichment within and beyond the school day and in the community.
