Working together for a better future

Governors are seeking an outstanding candidate to join the senior leadership team of our ‘Outstanding’ school. If you have a strong desire to improve the life chances of our students through a combination of strong academic standards and a focus on developing the whole child, then we would love to hear from you!

Judged ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted in 2010 and, further endorsed with a section 8 inspection in February 2020, Yardleys is a thriving, vibrant and heavily oversubscribed 11-16 multi-ethnic stand-alone academy in Birmingham with 933 students on roll. The diversity of the school population reflects the rich, cultural mix of the local area.

The school is committed to ensuring the very best outcomes for its young people, through a combination of excellent academic standards and a rich, broad and balanced curriculum. Yardleys is consistently in the top 20% of schools nationally and last validated data (2019) showed a progress 8 score of +0.48.

The school motto ‘Working together for a better future’ is far more than just words. The collaborative ethos which permeates the school is at the heart of our success. Excellent student behaviour and an extremely well organised school provide the foundation for teachers to focus on delivering outstanding lessons and continuously improving their craft, through a focus on highly-effective professional development and subject mastery.

We are looking for our new Deputy Headteacher to have:

• an exemplary record of sustained improvement and senior leadership in a secondary school

• a belief in the power of education to transform lives and improve social mobility

• the ability to lead our talented team of middle leaders in the areas of curriculum development and pedagogy

• creativity, clarity of vision and a successful track record of leading change

• a clear and committed strategic vision, combined with highly effective communication skills that will inspire, motivate and develop heads of faculty and heads of department

• a commitment to research and development and developing staff at all levels

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced leader with an extensive knowledge of the current educational agenda. You will be joining a committed, highly-effective and collaborative staff body.
