Manningtree High School is a successful, rural secondary school with a strong community feel. We are a mixed, fully comprehensive school serving the local area and work closely with primary and post-16 partners as well as other local secondary schools.  The school is set in a pleasant rural location only 10 miles from the centre of Colchester, an hour from Liverpool Street on the train and close to the Suffolk border.  We currently have around 840 11-16 students on roll.

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, committed and innovative leader to join our School.  As Deputy Headteacher, you will provide inspirational leadership and take an integral part in driving our school forward through its next stage of development.

The Deputy Headteacher will have the required leadership experience, vision and ambition, coupled with strong management and communication skills to motivate the staff team, student body and community to secure rapid and sustainable improvement.  The desire and ability to achieve challenging targets for high standards of behaviour, progress and attainment across and beyond the school is essential.

There is a strong ethos of teamwork and support throughout the school, as well as a commitment to self-improvement and continuous professional development.

The post offers the opportunity to join a strong senior leadership team, staff and Governing body who are committed to making a difference to communities on a local level, while individually improving the life chances of all young people.

If you share our vision for education and are passionate about raising educational attainment and standards to ensure all learners reach their full potential, you will be well placed to join our school and make a difference, we would like to hear from you.

Manningtree High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children; the successful candidate must receive a satisfactory enhanced DBS check before taking up the post.

We can offer you:

  • A community feel in a pleasant rural location only 10 miles from the centre of Colchester and an hour from London
  • Excellent facilities, with a new build classroom block and more building works imminent
  • Polite and courteous students

The school holds academy status and offers an excellent induction and ongoing staff development.  We are in the process of joining the Alpha MAT along with Colchester County High School for Girls and The Gilberd School in Colchester.  Our students are well behaved and motivated and examination results are excellent.

Ofsted 2018:

" Inspectors saw many examples of pupils being set engaging and challenging work in lessons, including the most able.  Teaching is monitored using a variety of information and you carefully monitor the progress of all groups of pupils. Staff are complimentary about the support they receive to improve their teaching. As a result, teaching is improving and is consistently leading to good outcomes for pupils in most subjects.

The pupils we spoke to were all very positive about their school experience. They told us that they enjoyed school and felt supported by teachers. We observed good pupil behaviour around the school and in lessons. Pupils respond well to staff requests and are keen to succeed.

The work in pupils’ books indicates that they take pride in their work and teachers have high expectations of pupils’ achievement. Pupils have the opportunity to practise and develop their knowledge through more than one subject. For example, they write evaluations in English, science, drama and history. The curriculum prepares pupils well for the next stage of their learning."

At Manningtree we strive to give every student the best education to suit their needs, we have high expectations of students and staff are expected to share this commitment for our young people.

We would be delighted to hear from you if you feel that you can make a positive contribution to our future successes.  The person appointed will enthuse, inspire and motivate students and be passionate about attainment and progress.

We are an Equal Opportunities employer. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All postholders are subject to employment checks and a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
