DEPUTY HEADTEACHER

Curriculum

Permanent

Pay Range: L25 to L28

Required: Easter or September 2021

Barnhill

Barnhill Community High School is a high-performing school in West London.  Our academic outcomes place us in and around the top 5% of the country.  The school is heavily oversubscribed and has increased its PAN over the last two years to accommodate the interest from our community.  We are a ‘Stand Out School’ in the Challenge Partners Network of Excellence and have links with many training alliances; London West, IoE, Kingston and Equalitas.  The school is a member of the Middlesex Learning Partnership MAT and we support the learning and management of the primary schools in this successful Trust.  Our ethos is based upon the values of ‘Respect, Wisdom, Aspiration and Community’.  We are seeking to appoint a dedicated colleague to lead on the school’s curriculum.

The Senior Leadership Team

Barnhill’s Senior Leadership Team is comprised of a Headteacher, three deputy head teachers (one of which is this vacancy) and four assistant head teachers.  Other members of staff serve on the associate leadership team, such as our Lead Practitioner for English and Literacy.  The team has a rich diversity of skills and experience, each with designated roles for school improvement.  The team is also supported on a regular basis by the Trust’s CEO.

The role

The exact remit will be decided according to the strengths of the successful candidate, but it will be to lead in one of the following areas: curriculum intent, implementation and impact.  Our curriculum also blends personal development in to the main school curriculum, so some experience with this will be an advantage.  It is also likely that the successful candidate will oversee one key stage; and it is likely this will be either KS4 or KS5.

Candidates

A candidate with the following skills and ideals would be very well suited to this role and to the school.

• Be up-to-date with the current developments in education which put curriculum at the heart of learning.

• Have a proven track record of improving outcomes at a key stage or faculty level through the careful design and implementation of an ambitious curriculum.

• Evidence of improving the practice of middle leaders to improve outcomes.

• An ambitious and collegiate way of working.

• A commitment to enhancing the lives of students and developing staff.

• A personal commitment to work hard and drive collaborative change.

• The drive to become a headteacher.

Our curriculum

Curriculum is at the heart of our school’s excellent offer to its staff and students.  Our curriculum is both academic and life enriching.  We do not see that these two aims are distinct; rather we treat the curriculum as the tool for educating and developing the whole child.  We are looking for a person of excellent integrity to join the curriculum team and work with the current deputy headteacher.

In the past year we have revamped the entire curriculum to ensure excellent continuity, progression and enrichment from Year 7 to 13. The successful candidate will lead on ensuring that this curriculum is of the highest order and uses sophisticated means of implementation and assessment.

The Middlesex Learning Partnership

Barnhill Community High School is part of the Middlesex Learning Partnership, an ambitious cross-phase Multi-Academy Trust. We are ambitious for the students of Hillingdon, ambitious for their futures, ambitious for their achievements and ambitious for their personal development. Students are at the heart of everything we do, and as such we are driven to achieve ever higher standards.

In line with the ethos of the best schools in the country, we are always trying harder, pushing the boundaries of learning and encouraging both students and staff to strive to reach their full potential. We believe in the transformative power of education to Build Brighter Futures and aim to foster within our communities a lifelong thirst for learning and improvement, so vital in a rapidly changing world. Our mission is to ensure that students recognise the importance of learning and are equipped to flourish in the world of the future and that staff are proud of the priceless contributions they make to student’s lives.

We are now looking to appoint a talented and enthusiastic Deputy Head Teacher to lead the school into the next stage of its journey and raise achievement within the national frameworks.

We believe in the power of learning to transform the lives of children and young people and to prepare them well for their futures.  We believe that all have great talents and potential, and that we need to provide an outstanding experience so that this can be realised.  We are also committed to the broader community.  Our Trust sits at the heart of the local area, and has a vital role to play as a centre for education, well-being and community cohesion.

Our staff benefit from a well-being scheme, childcare vouchers, cycle scheme and on-site gym facilities.
