Job overview

The Governors of Southbrook School welcome applications for the position of Deputy Headteacher to join a successful team, where everyone is valued. Our ethos is that through working together, as staff, Governors and families, we support all pupils to grow, develop and achieve their best.

Southbrook is a successful, oversubscribed special school for pupils age 11-16 with complex needs.  All our young people have social, emotional, and communication difficulties. Many have moderate learning difficulties, autistic spectrum conditions and physical/sensory impairments. A small number also have severe learning difficulties. All achieve an impressive range of external accreditations from Entry Levels, Functional Skills, ASDAN and AQA Awards, Vocational qualifications and GCSEs.

Unlike many other special schools, Southbrook admits most of its pupils at the start of Year 7. We currently have a two-form intake, and provide a mainstream curriculum.

We are seeking to appoint a Deputy Head with enthusiasm, drive and proven leadership skills. We want someone who is keen to innovate, and who is also flexible, creative and solution-focussed, in a challenging environment.
An analytical and strategic thinker, the successful candidate will work closely with the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team and the Governing Body to guide the school to its next stage of development.

This is a broad role and one which will be defined by the skills and experience of the successful candidate. However, you will need to demonstrate a strong record of success at a senior level.

If you feel you have the desire, determination and commitment, then we would love to hear from you.

Interested candidates are most welcome to visit the school. Please contact Gaynor Vicary, School Business Manager to arrange a visit or you can find further information about our school on our website www.southbrook.devon.sch.uk

For more details on the role and to apply, please visit www.devonjobs.gov.uk  and search using reference JS/19/03420. Applicants should submit an application form together with a covering letter to gvicary@southbrook.devon.sch.uk

Closing date: 9am on 25/02/19.
Interview date: 27/03/19 & 28/03/19.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

This role requires a DBS disclosure.

This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.
