The specific responsibilities of the post will be determined by the experiences and strengths of the applicants and agreed once appointed.

You will be expected to have:

  • Significant leadership and management experience at a strategic level;
  • Outstanding teaching ability and results;
  • Highly developed knowledge and experience of strategies that impact on student progress, attainment, achievement and behaviour;
  • Led whole school learning and teaching programmes which have led directly to positive outcomes for staff and students;
  • A relentless drive to ensure our students make the best possible progress in their learning;
  • Have a thorough knowledge of the secondary curriculum and its delivery;
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills;

Sir Thomas Wharton Community College is a Co-operative convertor Academy. The culture and ethos of our college is determined by our co-operative values. The successful candidate will not only have a belief in those values but take a leading role in developing the Yorkshire and Humberside Co-operative Learning Partnership. They must also be able to work collaboratively with leaders from partner schools supporting our improvement agenda.

Following a set of disappointing results in 2014 the college was placed in a category of ‘serious weaknesses’ in January 2015. The new Deputy Headteacher will join the recently appointed Headteacher and restructured leadership team to help ensure the college quickly moves out of a category and realises our ambition to be recognised as ‘outstanding’.

The post provides an excellent opportunity for an ambitious candidate to demonstrate their ability to improve school outcomes on their way to headship.
