Values and vision

Portchester Community School was the first secondary school in the UK to be designated as a Level 2 Rights Respecting School by UNICEF. The school continues to pride itself on its caring ethos and is widely recognised for its rights, respect and responsibility work.

Community engagement work has been a powerful vehicle for promoting positive relationships, raising aspirations and developing cultural awareness. Many students have had exceptional opportunities to travel and engage in new and exciting experiences both in the UK and abroad.

Portchester was the first UK school to be invited to and participate in the International Schools Summit in Seattle, US. This life-changing experience was a result of the work of the Model United Nations group established at the school in 2014. In September 2016, a second set of ambassadors visited The Charles Wright Academy in Seattle to explore in greater depth the human rights movements and establish plans for a return visit in 2017.

Ofsted report

“In lessons, interesting tasks and activities capture students’ imagination and motivate them very well. Students focus strongly on their work and are keen to do well. Good relationships and effective use of praise to engage students are strong features in lessons.”
