Due to the promotion of our current Deputy we are looking for an inspiring, imaginative and dynamic Deputy Headteacher. Our new Deputy's role will be to work alongside the Headteacher to continue to develop and secure the very best provision and outcomes for all of our pupils. School improvement is at the heart of this rewarding role.

This is a fantastic time to join our school. We are based in new purpose built accommodation close to the centre of Hatfield, and value the variety of exciting learning opportunities that our location and provision offers our pupils. We have made good links with local primary schools and want to continue to develop learning opportunities for our pupils with other inclusive and outward looking settings. We retained our status as a good school at our last Ofsted inspection, and successfully gained Autism Accreditation Aspiring status in July 2018.

As Deputy Headteacher you will be instrumental in helping to establish and develop a new Senior Leadership Team; further developing our creative curriculum and specialist provision, and developing our work with parents to support their children's education. You will be a key player in moving the school from good to outstanding.

This post offers the opportunity to gain a wide and varied experience of all aspects of school leadership and management. It also offers the chance for the right candidate to be innovative and to make their mark in a rapidly developing school. The successful candidate will receive support and training opportunities to enable them to be successful in their new role.

You will need to demonstrate a proven track record of outstanding teaching, working with pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and will have experience of leading new initiatives at a whole school level. You will have an inclusive approach to education, high aspirations for all pupils, staff and the school and the ability to lead and motivate a team. You will be a reflective practitioner who is proactive and constantly seeks to improve provision and outcomes for all pupils. You will take responsibility for driving specific aspects of the school improvement plan, which will ensure that your work remains exciting and that you continue to grow and develop in the role.You will play a key role in the school's self evaluation and monitoring activities. You will work with colleagues on the leadership team to provide quality assurance in all the school's activities. You will also have responsibility for aspects of the day to day management of the school. EYFS experience is desirable, but not essential.

We are a friendly, supportive and skilled staff team and work with unique and engaging pupils. Our Team work closely with parents and professionals from a number of other fields.

Southfield is a primary school for up to 80 pupils with Complex Learning Difficulties which include, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Speech Language and Communication Difficulties, and ADHD. It is situated in South Hatfield. In November 2015 we received a judgment of 'Good' under the new Ofsted inspection framework. This judgment reflects the commitment of both pupils, staff and the wider school community to 'learning together'. Our pupils are engaging and unique and have a wide range of abilities and needs. We follow the EYFS and National Curriculum and adapt these to meet the individual interests and needs of our pupils. We use a wide range of approaches and strategies to support learning including multi sensory approaches, Makaton,PECS, SCERTS,social stories,TEACCH approaches and Hertfordshire Steps amongst others. Our school is going through a period of rapid and exciting change. In September 2013 the school moved to new purpose built premises near Hatfield town centre. In this new location we have developed strong and inclusive links with mainstream schools. We use the many amenities in the town centre to enrich and enhance pupil learning. The school has achieved Autism Accreditation the focus of our School Development Plan is to continue to adapt and develop our curriculum and provision to ensure that our pupils make excellent progress and enjoy their time at Southfield School. We prioritize social communication skills, emotional regulation and positive behaviour for learning, so that our pupils are able to access a broad curriculum and develop both academic skills and skills for living and learning.
