Job overview

Deputy Headteacher L16-20 Required for January 2019

Do you have the passion, drive and determination through your leadership, to make a difference to the life chances of our young people in order that they leave us as autonomous learners, confident to take their place in the rapidly changing world?  This is an exciting opportunity for someone who relishes a challenge, and has the ambition to progress to Headship within the next five years. They will need to be able to demonstrate the impact of their leadership through raising standards for students and playing a significant role in our journey towards becoming a good and outstanding school.  The successful candidate will need to have professional integrity and a strong track record in leading others. Along with this, it is more important that we employ an inspirational leader, who has the energy and resilience to make a difference, whilst complementing our existing Leadership Team skill set, than appointing someone who has a specific area of Leadership within a school. This is a key appointment for our school, with it being the first appointment to our Leadership Team since our Headteacher started two years ago.  The post arises following the departure of a long standing Assistant Headteacher at Easter, and due to the impending retirement of another long standing Assistant Headteacher . This has provided an opportunity to review the roles and responsibilities of the Leadership Team. Therefore, we find ourselves in a privileged position to be able to appoint the best candidate who will complement the skills of the existing team. The areas of responsibility for the successful candidate will be determined once we have recruited to the post.

Gosford Hill School is situated in Kidlington, on the north western edge of Oxford near to the new Oxford Parkway Station (a 50 minute journey from London). We are also fortunate to be at the gateway to the rural Cotswolds.   If you are interested in the post, please follow the instructions on how to apply in the Deputy Headteacher brochure.

Serious candidates are warmly encouraged to visit the school on Monday 11th June 9am – 12.30pm or Wednesday 13th  June 10.00am  - 12.00pm . Please contact Nicola Cooke, Headteacher's PA to arrange a visit.

Closing date: Noon on Friday 15th June  2018

Shortlisting: Candidates who are shortlisted for interview will be notified by the close of Tuesday 19th June 2018

Interviews:   Will be held on Thursday 28th June and Friday 29th June 2018.

Welcome to Gosford Hill School

It’s a pleasure to welcome you to Gosford Hill School. Our school prides itself on the emphasis that we place on the needs, aspirations and achievement of individual students with learning very much at the heart of our work. We want our students to develop as resilient and autonomous learners, keen to overcome challenges, and take risks, so that they gain the transferable skills needed to enable them to lead fulfilling lives as confident and articulate individuals in our society.

Every student has strengths and talents, and it is our job to find and unlock that potential in every student. Whether it’s sport, art, music, Duke of Edinburgh or World Challenge, we celebrate success and recognise that learning goes beyond the classroom. Students are often more likely to remember the wealth and diverse range of opportunities available to them beyond the classroom as they are faced with new and exciting challenges.

We work closely with parents, and it is our belief that where the school, individual student and their parents work closely together, students will succeed.

It’s a privilege to lead such a wonderful school and I do hope that you find the information on our website helpful. There is so much more to learn about our school though, so I would therefore urge you to come and visit us in order to find out and experience for yourself why students, parents, staff and our wider community are so proud of our school.

Mr Nigel J. Sellars
Headteacher
