About the school and role

We are looking for a hardworking, child centred and ambitious leader to join our Ofsted Outstanding leadership team as we expand. This is an excellent role for a senior leader who is intellectually curious and wishes to move eventually to headship. Working with the Heads of Education, Care and Therapy this will give the applicant the chance to develop their knowledge base considerably in a supportive yet challenging environment.

The Grange is a specialist independent school which provides education, residential care and therapy for young people aged 8-18 with Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) for Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, ASC or related conditions.

Our school is based in a Victorian country house in Leicestershire with stunning views and fantastic facilities to develop not only the educational, but also the social and emotional needs of our pupils. With access to woods and lakes on site, the school has an ethos about delivering a personalised curriculum tailored to, and driven by, the individuals.

We offer the chance to teach in an environment where the emphasis is on excellent classroom practice with groups of up to 6 pupils and relationships are the key to success. Job Summary

  • To oversee the collection and analysis of progress data
  • To present such data to internal and external partners
  • To play a full and active role in the Senior Leadership Team
  • To organise cover and support staff resourcing
  • To oversee the qualification framework
  • To deputise for the Head of Education in his absence

General Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with managing their behaviour inside and outside the classroom
  • Ensure efficient and effective use of teaching materials and resources and the proper care and maintenance of equipment and the teaching environment
  • Through training, personal and professional development maintain a sound understanding of the needs of pupils at The Grange
  • Comply with professional codes of practice and standards
  • Comply with health and safety and other appropriate statutory requirements to ensure the health, safety and well-being of self and pupils
  • To line manage appropriate staff, providing support and challenge where necessary
  • Liaise with care staff on a regular basis and particularly at beginning and end of day ‘handover’ to ensure continuity of pupil support and behaviour management

In its stunning country setting The Grange day and 38 week residential school offers a holistic therapeutic approach in its teaching and environment.

Small class sizes and an onsite therapy team help pupils re-engage in education through traditional learning opportunities alongside numerous off site vocational options and accredited activities which develop the boys’ confidence & social skills, improving their potential to move on to a meaningful adult life.

The individual curriculum is extended to well resourced primary classes where pupils are also encouraged through a nurturing approach in lessons and during play activities.
