About Richard Atkins Primary School

Richard Atkins Primary School is a larger than average two-form entry primary school.  The school is vibrant with a diverse school community.  All pupils, parents, carers, families, teachers, support staff and governors work together to achieve and to fulfil their potential.

The school had its last OfSTED Inspection in March 2012.  OfSTED describes the school as ‘a good school...improving because of strong leadership. Its partnership with parents and carers is a notable strength. Its purpose-built centre, The Clapham Park Centre, is a landmark in the local area and is used extensively by the school and local community groups'.

The school is housed in a Grade II listed building built in 1897.  It is listed for its architectural excellence.  Despite its age the school is in very good condition with light, airy classrooms and space for physical activities.  The front playground consists of asphalted areas bordered by a range of shrubs, and pupils have access to a wide range of play equipment during break times including a climbing frame and a wooden pirate ship.  The rear playground includes a caged area for ball games, and climbing apparatus attached to the wall. There is also a small walled play area with a pond, a podium and seated areas.  There are seated areas in all play areas.

The school has developed the purpose built centre, ‘Clapham Park Centre’ designed to enhance the extended school activities for pupils, parents and members of the community.  The building was opened in September 2010 and houses a large hall, a large meeting room with sink and refrigerator, a music/dance rehearsal room, three teaching rooms, a kitchen, two health and well being rooms, an ICT suite and gallery space.
