Job overview

The Governors of St. Matthew’s RC High School seek to appoint an aspiring and inspirational leader to join our Senior Leadership Team.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for the leadership of key elements of school provision, however the specific responsibilities and duties are negotiable depending on the strengths of the person appointed.

We are looking for a person:

  • Who is a practising Catholic with a clear understanding of leadership in a Catholic school thus enabling the school to participate actively in the mission of the church
  • Who has high expectations and will inspire, challenge and encourage staff to achieve the best outcomes for pupils, enabling every child to reach their highest potential
  • Is a dedicated educator with proven leadership and management skills who has previous experience of sustaining and improving standards
  • Who will continue to develop collaborative partnerships with parents and the wider community in preparing pupils to live, work and contribute to society.

St Matthew's RC High School is an oversubscribed 11-16 VA comprehensive school with 1150 pupils. We are a school with a rich tradition of working closely with the community we serve and we enjoy excellent relations with our partner primary schools and parishes. We are proud to be a Catholic school and we place at the centre of all we do the Person of Christ and the tradition and teachings of the Church.

Our school mission statement can be summed up in three words ‘Pray, Achieve and Care’ and these simple, but powerful words lie at the heart of all we do as a school community.

St. Matthew’s benefits from a modern school building with excellent equipment and facilities to support pupil learning and development during the school day and beyond. The school environment, curriculum and extra-curricular activities supports, fosters and inspires pupils to make every effort to achieve success at the highest level and provides opportunities for them to make a valuable contribution to the local, national and global community.

Further details and a Catholic Education Service application form are available via the school website www.smrchs.com and should be emailed to contact@smrchs.com or posted to the school addressed to the Headteacher.

Visits to the school can be arranged by contacting Anna Espley on 0161 681 6178 or at contact@smrchs.com

Closing date:  Monday 13th March 2017, 3.00pm
Interviews:  Interviews will take place week commencing 20th March 2017

St Matthew’s RC High School is a large 11-16 voluntary aided Catholic comprehensive school in North Manchester with an intake of 240 pupils each year.

We are proud to be a Catholic school and we place at the centre of all we do the Person of Christ and the tradition and teachings of the Church. Our school mission statement can be summed up very neatly in three words ‘Pray, Achieve and Care’ and these simple, but powerful words lie at the heart of all we do as a school community.

Our school is diverse and lively with a rich tradition of working closely with the community we serve and excellent relations with our partner primary schools and parishes. The strong, long standing links with partner primary schools and sixth form colleges, allow us to work well in supporting our pupils through key transitional points in their education.

As a school we are committed to engaging in the ongoing pursuit of excellence in all aspects of provision and the delivery of first class learning opportunities for all our pupils. The staff and Governors of the school are firmly committed to improving standards. We offer a wide curriculum choice that ensures that the vast majority of our pupils move successfully into further education, training or employment after year 11.

We are passionate about the quality of teaching and learning in the classroom and investment in staff development is paramount. We have a strong programme of training and development for all staff. We were awarded CPD mark accreditation in recognition of our staff development programme.

St Matthew’s is a member of the Manchester Catholic Education Partnership (MANCEP) and so has strong curriculum and pastoral links with the other Manchester Catholic High schools and Sixth form colleges. There is a joint training day each year, normally based on curriculum areas. We also have curriculum and pastoral links with a number of schools throughout Greater Manchester.

Our staff, both teaching and non teaching, is extremely professional, hardworking and very supportive of each other. There is a good balance of staff who have worked for many years at the school and others who have joined us more recently. Staff are actively encouraged to maintain a healthy work / life balance. A notable feature of the school is the number of former pupils who are now members of staff.
