Applications are invited from practising Catholics for the post of Deputy Headteacher at St Mary’s Catholic School, an exceptionally high performing National Teaching School.  Governors hope that the post will be attractive both to those seeking their first Deputy Headship and to serving Deputies seeking a new challenge.  Specific lead responsibilities for this post could be drawn from many key areas of school life, whether teaching and learning, achievement, curriculum, CPD and so on.  Our key priority is to recruit the best senior leader at this important time in the school’s continued development.  In addition to the generic responsibilities detailed in the job description, lead responsibilities will be agreed with the successful applicant, taking into account relevant experience and areas of interest, as well as the needs of the school.  Full training and unstinting support will be given.    

St Mary’s is widely recognised as a consistently high performing school, rated Outstanding by the Diocese and Ofsted.  DfE Performance Tables confirm the school’s exceptional academic performance at each key stage and in each curriculum area.  Outcomes have been in the top 10% nationally for four of the last five years.  We are very popular with parents and one of the most oversubscribed schools in the north-east.  We have 1150 students in the main school and our Sixth Form of over 200 is expected to grow to around 300 in the next three years.  We have fantastic teaching and support staff and also benefit from superb facilities in a lovely building which opened in 2011 and has been subsequently extended.
