Job overview

Due to promotion of the current post holder, The Howard School is seeking to appoint an inspirational and exceptional Deputy Head Teacher to lead on Students and Outcomes from September 2018.

The successful candidate will be a creative and dynamic practitioner who will be able to contribute to the development of our Leadership Team and help drive forward our agenda of continuous improvement.  You will show the drive, tenacity and ability to realise this ambition, and demonstrate a commitment to your own education and to yours and others’ professional development. This role is one where you must provide clear leadership, challenge and support to others and you must have the capacity to do this in a way that is professional, based on evidence and motivates your colleagues.

The successful candidate will be someone with strategic experience and the ability to inspire, challenge and motivate our community.  This is an exciting time to join The Howard with a number of significant changes planned for the near future that will support our move towards excellence. If you are an imaginative and energetic practitioner and want to make a difference to the life-chances of all the students in your care then this could be the post for you.

As a school our academic results are exceptional. The Howard School previously achieved very high rates of students gaining 5 A* - C grades including English and Mathematics at GCSE, and our strong Progress 8 score from the last two years for all groups of students demonstrates our commitment to each and every one of our learners. We remain one of the most consistently performing non-selective schools in the South East, and continue to challenge the stereotypical view of underachievement in young men.

We value our teachers and actively support their professional development, and have redesigned our working week from September 2017 to place even greater emphasis on staff development. You will have access to on-going professional development including National College accredited courses.  If you are looking to extend your experience and would be interested in joining our team, we would be delighted to hear from you.  We offer an extremely attractive and very competitive financial package.

The Howard School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment. References will be taken up for those candidates short-listed for interview. The successful candidate will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks along with other relevant employment checks.

An informal conversation with the Headteacher is welcomed and can be arranged by appointment.  Please contact Teresa McNamara, PA to the Headteacher, on 01634 388765 to book an appointment.

We reserve the right to alter our interview dates and close this vacancy early should we receive an overwhelming response.

The Howard Academy Trust Limited is an equal opportunities employer.
