At West Somerset College we aim to provide a rich and varied education for all of our students. We believe that ensuring students realise their full potential depends upon a continuous drive for excellence by our staff. We are looking for applicants who are reliable, conscientious, able to be flexible and work as part of an experienced leadership team.

Candidates must already hold a Senior Management post of Assistant or Deputy Headteacher with the capacity to drive continued, rapid school improvement, lead staff and have a clear impact on student outcomes.

The post will carry specific responsibilities in a variety of areas and is an opportunity to re-imagine the culture of a school, including relaunching a House system, that will benefit the team and the school. Further details are outlined in the job description and will be discussed with candidates during the interview process. This post will provide an ideal opportunity for preparation for Headship.

  • A professional leadership development coach
  • A Trust wide staff wellbeing policy
  • Personalised professional development supported by an exceptional team within the Academy and driven through The Continual Professional Growth Policy which replaces appraisal and pay progression

Please note, although we are ideally looking for a full-time colleague, we are open to discussing flexible working options

We would encourage you to call to discuss this post with the Headteacher or book to come and visit the school. In addition to your application form, please complete a letter of no more than two sides of A4 in font 11 detailing your experience to date and what you would bring to the role.

The West Somerset College is the only secondary school serving the district of West Somerset.  Our 660 square kilometers catchment area includes two-thirds of the Exmoor National Park and part of the Quantock Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty as well as the coastal towns of Minehead and Watchet.  This is a sparsely-populated rural area, with obvious attractions to lovers of the countryside and outdoor activities.
