Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a Deputy Headteacher to complement our ambitious, forward thinking and dynamic Leadership Team. Hinchley Wood is an inclusive and high achieving 11-18 co-educational Academy, celebrating student progress and development as well as academic achievement. We currently have 1300 students on roll, including 230 in our rapidly expanding sixth form.

We are looking for a talented, highly motivated leader with drive, vision and a commitment to excellence, as well as strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate to a range of stakeholders. You will be joining a supportive, committed and passionate team who work hard to ensure that all our students achieve their potential. All members of the team are expected to contribute to the development of teaching and learning as we strive to ensure the very best for all our students.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Leadership Team as we look to genuinely “inspire learners”. You will be expected to play a key role in developing the strategic vision for the school whilst ensuring that our students develop their potential, achieving academic excellence and developing the 5 values at the heart of our vision: confidence, consideration, determination, enthusiasm and independence.

In 2015, the school had outstanding examination results with 79% of students achieving 5 or more A*-C grades including English and maths.  41% of all GCSE results were graded A* or A with 99% of the cohort achieving 5 or more A*-G grades.  At A level, 100% of students achieved A* - E, including 60% of all results graded A*-B and 35% of all results graded A* or A.

An Ofsted inspection in September 2011 judged Hinchley Wood School to be "outstanding” stating that “students work exceptionally well together in this harmonious and cohesive community, and achieve outstanding outcomes”. In 2015 the school received a letter from David Laws, Minister of State for Schools, congratulating us on being one of the top 100 performing non-selective state schools in terms of the GCSE performance of our students.

If you are an inspirational and talented leader with a strong desire to help students of all abilities to achieve the best they can, whilst fulfilling your own potential, then we would be very pleased to hear from you. Visits to the school, prior to application, are encouraged and you will be warmly welcomed. Please contact Heather Morey on 0208 339 3902 to arrange this, or if you have further specific questions.

Closing date for applications: Monday 29th February 2016 (9am)
(Interviews are planned for 10-11 March)
