The Governors of Sydenham School wish to appoint an experienced and talented senior leader to join their vibrant and wonderful school community.
Sydenham School is at a pivotal point on its journey to becoming an outstanding school. The school has recently been awarded the ‘High Performance Learning World Class School’ kite mark. They have the highest aspirations for all their students and the school motto is ‘Aim High’. Sydenham School is a diverse, comprehensive, inclusive school rooted in the local community. It is a successful, oversubscribed 11-18 school with 1386 students on roll.
Their last OFSTED Inspection in March 2017 confirmed that Sydenham is a ‘good’ school with the capacity to continue to improve. They are absolutely committed to providing the very best education for their students and they are seeking to appoint a strong candidate to this role who has the right skill set, values and attributes. You should share an unswerving commitment to raising standards across all areas of the school for all groups of students. You should be able to deliver on the full brief of a Deputy Headteacher. You will understand that your role will evolve over time.
Your track record to date should clearly evidence the impact that you have had as a senior leader in shaping whole school culture, as well as in continually raising achievement.
The successful candidate will have responsibility for a number of key strategic whole school areas as well as be required to effectively carry out the full range of day-to-day operational duties. You will be expected to readily build excellent relationships with students and to enjoy working alongside them and their families in order to ensure that they thrive and achieve. You should genuinely revel in working with young people. Outstanding learning and teaching lies at the heart of every successful school and Sydenham School places a high premium on this. You will be required to teach as part of your role.

In 2016 we moved into our tastefully refurbished Edwardian building and newly built state of the art STEM buildings.
However, we are equally committed to developing our students in the Arts, Humanities and Languages, so that they can develop their creative skills, critical awareness and confidence to thrive in the future. We partner with Forest Hill Boys’ School to operate SFH6 - the Sydenham and Forest Hill Sixth Form. This provides a wide range of opportunities and progression routes for students. This year 89% of our Sixth Form students went on to University, with over 70% progressing to the top research intensive universities including Oxford, Cambridge and the Russell Group. 100% went on to either University, training apprenticeships or employment.
