Nord Anglia International School New York (NAISNY)

We offer a truly engaging global education for students aged 2 – 14 years nestled in the heart of the iconic East Village, New York. Our school is dynamic, creative, based around a strong community of 130 students accommodated over six floors of our school, and with a strong ambition to grow over the next few years. Enrolment is selective, based on the student’s ability to access our international curriculum and families wishing to align with our international ethos, with children from over 35 countries currently enrolled in our school.

We aim to inspire our students to learn, explore and develop into confident, creative and balanced global citizens. We offer an unparalleled standard of personalised education with opportunities for students to explore their creative side, to learn from the very best international teachers and organizations and meet students from around the world in order to prepare them for the journey ahead.

Our students are able to take advantage of the unique opportunities afforded to them by being New York City, including our Nord Anglia Collaborations in UNICEF and Juilliard, as well as our Artists in Residence program, in which students work closely with New York City-based artists.

Students are taught by highly-skilled class teachers in the lower school (2s – Year 4) and specialist teachers in the upper school (Year 5 - 9).

Our students love coming to school every day to learn with their friends, amazing teachers, and inspired and talented artists. Being friendly, creative and ambitious, our students are an absolute delight and have a thirst for learning within our tightly knitted community.

About the Role

This is an outstanding opportunity to play a major role in this truly amazing and unique school in the heart of New York City. The Deputy Headteacher (DH), along with the Principal and two Assistant Heads, form the school’s academic School Leadership Team (SLT). This team leads the strategic and operational workings of the school. The DH is given significant autonomy to oversee and lead their portfolio of responsibilities, including academic quality assurance (Nord Anglia’s self-evaluation), school development plan, safeguarding and ensuring the smooth running of the school. The DH will be required to undertake class teaching responsibilities of around 8 – 10 hours per week. Although responsibilities will be negotiable in accordance with the strengths of the successful candidate, a typical outline of such duties may include:

  • Deputize in the absence of the Principal
  • Lead the school’s quality assurance cycle and school development planning

  • Perform the role of the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead and manage all aspects of safeguarding
  • Assist the Principal in the recruitment and induction of staff

Beyond this, the DH has direct responsibility for leading the school in the absence of the Principal. The DH will deliver an adapted UK National and International Curriculum. Please clearly state which subjects you are able to teach and to what level.

  • Excellent communication skills and able to communicate the aims and vision of the school to parents.
  • International and/or independent school context desirable.
  • A recognized teaching qualification and degree in your specialist subject.
  • Ability to adapt leadership style to suit very differing contexts.
  • Energetic and optimistic.
  • Ready to embrace change.
  • Receptive to feedback.
  • Collaborative and willing to research and share best practice.
  • Ambitious for our school.
