Job overview

We are looking to appoint an energetic and committed professional, with successful middle and senior leadership experience, to the role of Deputy Headteacher. This post came about after the successful promotion of our current deputy headteacher. The school has an excellent reputation, achieves highly in terms of attainment and progress and is oversubscribed. It was rated “Good” overall with “Outstanding” in the Personal Development category in September 2022.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding classroom practitioner who has already had proven success as a Middle and Senior leader. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the next phase of our journey as we prepare to strengthen and build on our successes. 

You will develop as a Deputy Headteacher within a visionary and enterprising context and have the potential to move on to Headship with the support of an experienced Headteacher and supportive Governing Body.

We’re proud of our school history and its unique status as an Ecumenical Middle School that’s supported by the Dioceses of Portsmouth and Oxford. In 2005 we celebrated 300 years of the Royal Free Trust where it all began at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. Although the school aims to follow Christian values, we celebrate the traditions and beliefs of all faiths – and learn the importance of helping and respecting others.

Our attractive site in the lovely historic town of Windsor includes purpose-built specialist teaching spaces for a range of different curriculum subjects. Our music suite, computing area and performance space have all been recently completed, and our sports hall and science laboratories are modern and well-equipped.

Pupils’positive contributions to wider school life are encouraged and celebrated equally, alongside their academic successes. Pupils enjoy a wide range of interesting activities to nurture their talents and support their personal development. These include participating in sports clubs, charity events and in-school competitions. The ‘Key Stage 3 Pledge’, for example, recognises and celebrates pupils’positive actions within the school and local community. Pupils demonstrate a strong understanding of the school values. Staff have high expectations for all pupils and provide a plethora of opportunities for them to embody each value. Pupils are proud to belong to the school and feel well prepared for their next stage of education. Bullying is very rare because pupils treat each other with kindness and respect. Pupils feel welcome and fully included in the school. They trust that adults will listen to and resolve any worries that they might have. Parents value the care that staff give.
