Job overview

Tottington High School is an ambitious and progressive 11-16 school in Bury, Greater Manchester with approximately 900 students on roll. The school has a very clear vision for its future and is looking to appoint an exceptional and inspirational Deputy Headteacher to be part of that and to provide the strategic leadership for whole school pastoral care including behaviour, attendance and safeguarding. The position is a key role in further leading the school forward and presents an opportunity for headship preparation.

You will join the school at an exciting time, working alongside its new Headteacher, who took up post in April 2020, and who is committed to creating something exceptional for the young people in the school’s community. The school also joined The Shaw Education Trust in 2018 and there is a trust wide commitment to improve, accelerate and enable ambitious life goals amongst all young people in their academies. The successful candidate must share these values and have the skills, expertise and determination to translate them into reality.

The Shaw Education Trust is a large family and consists of 25 Academies and 1 Independent Specialist College. Our schools cover all phases and all sectors, we are proud to be inclusive, having ambition for each and every one of our 11,000 learners. We are an innovative, aspirational and motivated Trust, determined to affect positive outcomes for our communities. We have a SCITT and an Institute of Education within our partnership and these provide outstanding career development pathways for teaching and support colleagues. Our apprenticeship model is dynamic, fast paced and stage appropriate. Exceptional, high quality professional learning lies at the heart of our approach: we regard it as a right, not a lottery. Our academies are great places to work, our teams buzz with creativity, and focus on excellence by all and for all. They are committed to the continued professional development of all members of staff and the sustained successful performance of all its academies. Career opportunities within the Trust are significant. All leaders are supported to excel. There is a bespoke leadership pathway programme, which enables the next stage of professional growth within the group.

If you are a middle or senior leader in a secondary setting, with a track record of sustained improvement, this role offers an outstanding opportunity to lead the future development of Tottington High School.  The successful candidate must have recent experience of pastoral leadership and be passionate about improving students’ life chances through the provision of the highest quality of education. Whilst displaying compassion you will work with colleagues to identify innovative ways to continually improve performance together with the focussed leadership to ensure successful outcomes are reached. Your positivity will engage and inspire students and staff while also developing and forging new partnerships within the community. Above all, you will ensure that the students, their learning and developing their potential remains at the heart of all decisions.

We would welcome visits from prospective candidates, and arrangements for this can be made by contacting the Headteacher’s PA Caron Chappell at cchappell@tottington.shaw-education.org.uk or on 01204 88 2327.
