Job overview

Surval Montreux (www.surval.ch) is a boarding school for a maximum of 65 girls aged 13 to 19, idyllically situated on mountain slopes overlooking Lake Geneva, in the French-speaking region of Switzerland. The school is housed in a former hotel with excellent facilities.

We have a new and exciting opportunity for a Deputy Housemistress, to support the boarding provision in this unique, elite, fully boarding school for girls aged between 13 and 19.  Our students are international, from all over the world.  Girls and staff, including a Graduate Gap team of five,  all work together successfully in a supportive and friendly atmosphere which provides the best possible learning environment, both academically and in terms of personal development.  Our students are young women who have high aspirations in life and will go on to have considerable influence in their own countries.

Candidate will be committed to the values and culture of the school, centred on its boarding ethos. They should have some experience of working in a Boarding School environment. International experience is not a prerequisite, but applicants should have an openness to a multicultural community and understanding of girls who are living far from home for the first time.

They should enjoy the challenge and fun of working in a diverse and exciting community, be approachable, flexible, resourceful, and imaginative and have initiative.

For further information and an application form please contact our Office Manager, Ms Pernille Mogensen, on pernille.mogensen@surval.ch. Completed forms, a detailed cv and your letter of application must be received at Surval by Wednesday 4 May.

About Surval Montreux: International School for Girls

Surval Montreux is a unique international girls’ boarding school in Switzerland which provides an exceptional all-round education for girls aged 12-19.  The school offers a High School programme for Grades 8-12, alongside a unique Swiss Gap programme for 17-19 year olds, Winter Camp experiences and a Summer Camp June to August. Surval programmes are exclusively for girls. All aspects of a Surval education focus on empowering girls to challenge themselves, own their voice and lead their journey.

Surval belongs to the international education group Bellevue  Education consisting of 21 schools, with headquarters in London, UK.

The curriculum is based on the American High School Program, taught alongside Advanced Placements or IGCSEs, AS and A2 levels.  We also offer an innovative Swiss  Gap year programme for post-secondary school study which includes an intensive French language programme.

This is an exciting time in the School’s history having recently celebrated our 60th anniversary,  connecting with the school’s traditions and heritage whilst seeking to continue to provide a  forward-thinking and creative education in order to prepare young women for tomorrow’s  world.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an energetic, imaginative, and inspiring teacher. If you love teaching, thrive on initiative and ideas, and would relish the enrichment opportunities of  an international boarding school, please contact us.

Classes are small at Surval, typically around 10 students or smaller. As a small school, subject practitioners must be self-sufficient in their subject specialism, able to build their own resources, and to administer the curriculum and assessments efficiently. Flexibility is valued and expected.
