The Appointment

Eastfields Nursery (part of Culford School) is seeking to appoint a forward-thinking, dynamic and innovative individual with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills to the role of Deputy Manager at Eastfields Nursery (aged 1-3) for four days (36 hours) a week.

You will work as part of a committed team working flexibly between each of the rooms. A sound knowledge of the EYFS is essential. Candidates must be enthusiastic, passionate, knowledgeable and keen to regard this as an exciting opportunity for further career development.


The Role

The list below is not exhaustive and assumes that from time to time other tasks not listed, may be required to ensure the efficient operation of the nursery.

• Implement all safeguarding policies and procedures.

• Maintaining excellent parent partnerships.

• The supervision of health and safety.

• Implement all of Eastfields Nursery and Culford School’s policies and procedures.

• Liaising with the Nursery Manager to develop the role.

• Supervising activities.

• Helping with nursery events, trips and activities.

• Completing observations on Tapestry


Working hours: 36 hours / four days per week throughout the year. A degree of flexibility is required as to which days these will be. In addition, the ability to be flexible about covering absent colleagues may be seen as an advantage.

Holiday entitlement: 28 days per annum, plus 7 days bank holidays. May Day is a working day.

Holiday time to be taken with the agreement of the Nursery Manager

The Person

Skills and attributes

• Able and competent in assisting with the daily management of the setting, being room-based and undertaking management duties in the absence of the Manager. These may include staffing arrangements, communicating with the Head of Early Years and dealing with parental concerns and questions.

• Demonstrate a passion for working with children – you will be responsible for promoting and maintaining a healthy and safe environment at all times.

• Have a wealth of knowledge and understanding – you will oversee the individual needs of the children and ensure that children are kept active and engaged in developmental activities, having your own key group.

• Able to develop and maintain strong relationships with parents – as a key point of contact you will have regular communication with the parents.

• Excellent communication skills in both listening and speaking.

• Strong leadership skills


Experience

• Practical experience of the EYFS and Ofsted standards.


Qualifications and training

• Level 3 or above (essential)

• Professional experience in working and caring for children ages 1-3 years old in a nursery environment (essential)

• Experience in a supervisory/leadership role of leading a team (desirable)

• Current Paediatric First Aid Certificate and Food Hygiene Certificate (desirable)

About Culford School

Established in 1881, Culford School is a co-educational, all-through, independent school in the town of Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. Offering places to around 700 pupils aged 1-18, the selective school sits on a large plot of rural land and boasts a mix of 18th-century buildings and modern teaching facilities.

Although the majority of Culford’s children are day pupils, the school offers boarding facilities for prep and senior pupils. Prospective students are expected to pass examinations across a broad range of subjects. The precise nature of the admissions procedure differs depending on the age of the child applying for entry.
