Job overview

Location: Temporary site at Canterbury Road, Croydon - moving to a newly constructed school in New Addington, Surrey

Addington Valley Academy (AVA) is a co-educational Special School which will have 150 places for children and young people aged 2-19 who have autism and social communication, cognitive, sensory and social, emotional, and behavioural needs in the Croydon region. All our children have Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). We opened in September 2020 with an initial cohort of 22 ASD year 7 pupils in a temporary site based in Croydon.

This is an exciting time in the school’s development with a planned relocation to a newly constructed school building for the academic year 2021-22 with a fantastic learning environment designed to meet the needs of autistic children.

The Deputy Principal will work closely with the Principal, students and families, the wider SLT and the academy teams in sustaining a journey of improvement, development and innovation to benefit our students. The Deputy Principal will be fully engaged with the Principal in planning the curriculum and delivery to enhance the offer to our students and to take full advantage of the proposed new buildings, which will include technical/vocational facilities.

This is a wonderful opportunity to make a difference and change lives. The successful candidate will have a unique chance to lead on system design and will be the perfect platform for Headship in the future.

It is anticipated that as the school grows the salary scale will grow to L18-21 when the school is at 150 students.

Specific responsibility will include supporting the Principal in professional duties: To assist in mutually agreed areas of school leadership and management, including Teaching and Learning, Attainment, Performance Management of Teaching staff and to fully deputise for the Principal in his absence.

Addington Valley Academy benefits from being part of Orchard Hill College (the College) and Orchard Hill College Academy Trust (the Trust), a family of specialist education providers for pupils and students from nursery to further education across London, Berkshire, Surrey and Sussex. As an outstanding provider and Academy sponsor, Orchard Hill College has a strong track record for making a positive impact within the local communities it serves.
