About Us

In September 2015, MacIntyre Academies Trust opened a new Academy in Nuneaton, Warwickshire; catering for children and young people aged between 9 years (Year 5)  and 19 years with an autism diagnosis and / or an underlying condition that has enabled them to receive an EHC plan for ASC or SEMH. MacIntyre Academies is sponsored by MacIntyre Charity, which over the last 50 years, has developed a strong reputation nationally, as a high quality, person centred organisation.

The Role

Due to the promotion of the current post holder of Assistant Principal for Provision and Progress to a headship of a similar setting in Somerset we are seeking a “like for like” replacement. However, as this post is crucial to the continued success and further improvement of Discovery we are seeking someone with Senior Leadership experience and the skills and potential for headship and therefore offer this as a Deputy Principal role.  Provision and Progress has always been our title – however in Ofsted speak it is Intent and Impact. There is always the possibility of shuffling roles within our SLT so if this pack excites you, but the role is not a 100% match to your skills set please do get in touch. There is a full list of SLT and ESLT roles attached as an appendix; this role is currently filled by Emily (as an AP). 

It is a really exciting opportunity to be part of something very special. We have a leadership team of 6; currently 4 APs (3.2 FTE) oversee all Provision and Pastoral aspects between them. This role will focus on supporting our 2 phase leaders (KS2/3 and KS4/5), learning support lead and teaching staff to further develop, monitor and evaluate our curriculum. You will embrace coaching approaches as essential, be creative and flexible and, as with all staff, be non-judgmental, unconditionally accepting and highly resilient. As Deputy you will act for the Principal in his absence and may take on line management of some APs. You must have high quality data analysis skills and timetabling experience.

Our teachers work with timetabled groups, supported by an HLTA and 2 TAs, to deliver the academic and wellbeing curriculum. Classes are usually between 7 and 10 students. The Academy is very well staffed and committed to the Professional Development of all; roles can be tailored to allow strengths to be shown as well as areas for development or professional interest to be experienced and understood.

They are exceptional classroom practitioners and have demonstrable experience of working with Children and Young People with either social and emotional needs or Autism, associated challenging behaviour or other complex needs, whilst demonstrating proven experience of implementing the national curriculum. They are able to implement strategies for raising achievement across the curriculum and are committed to their further professional development.

As Deputy Principal you will be fully involved in the strategic leadership and daily management of the school. We are a close leadership team, very committed to our learners, our staff and each other. All staff meet every Monday and Tuesday after school, Teachers and Middle Leaders alternate a Wednesday meeting and SLT meet during the day on Monday 12 -1 (Finance & Operations), Wednesday 1 - 2 (Q of E and PD) and on  Thursday 3.45 – 5.00 for Safeguarding & Children & Young People.
