Salary:  PO3 point 33 – 36 (£33,581 - £36,259)

Hours: 36 Hours per week (39 weeks per year) – Working Pattern to be confirmed.

We are seeking to appoint a Deputy Residential Childcare for our Residential department, Richley House. The department provides residential care for children aged between the ages of 7 to 19 years with a range of complex communication, sensory and physical disabilities who attend Linden Lodge School.

This is an opportunity for someone who is passionate about transforming young peoples’ lives, promoting independence and has a desire to develop their career in a Special School setting. You'll be coordinating a small team of colleagues committed to providing high quality support to the children and young people within the residential unit.

This is an exciting time to join the school. In our recent OFSTED of the residential department, Leadership and Management was judged “outstanding” (January 2019) where “leaders’ expert knowledge and steadfast commitment to children have inspired them to continue their own professional journeys”. We have an impressive three acre campus in Wimbledon offering fabulous indoor and outdoor innovative facilities to support teaching and learning. 

The postholder will be responsible for aspects of the day-to-day management of Richley House and will deputise for the manager when required.

We are specifically looking for a skilled practitioner who:

• Has a knowledge and understanding of the OFSTED National minimum standards

• Experience of applying and working within safeguarding policies and procedures

• Possesses a minimum Level 4 NVQ in Children’s Residential Care.


The postholder must hold a Level 5 NVQ in Residential Childcare management OR be willing to undertake this qualification

Linden Lodge School is a day and residential special needs school for pupils with Vision and Multi Sensory Impairment. We are based in Wimbledon, southwest London, and consider prospective pupils from a wide area.

We accept children from nursery to year 14 ( 2 to 19 ) with Vision Impairment, Hearing Impairment and Multi-Sensory Impairment. We also consider applications for pupils who would benefit from our sensory education approaches and facilities.

The education of pupils with Sensory Impairment is highly specialist and therefore we have specialist teachers, a specialist sensory curriculum and extensive specialist resources and facilities on our campus.

These include:

  • A large workforce of specialist sensory impairment teachers who in addition to their teaching qualifications hold a Diploma or Masters Degree in teaching the visually impaired, hearing-impaired and multi-sensory impaired
  • A large on-site therapy team of Speech and Language therapists, Physiotherapists and Occupational therapists directly employed by the school who work alongside teachers and education teams
  • A team of habilitationists for the visually-impaired
  • An onsite Learning Resources Centre which enables us to provide a wide range of fully accessible learning resources tailored to meet each pupil’s specific sensory needs
  • On-site Vision assessment hub to carry out Functional Vision Assessments
  • An NHS standard Audiology testing booth to assess pupils’ hearing and the use of audiological equipment
  • A centre for families of children with Sensory Impairment to provide training, parent guidance and social opportunities
  • An accessible physical environment including acoustically treated classrooms and clear signage for the visually-impaired

Our expectations for each pupil are high and we understand that each pupil with a Sensory Impairment has a unique diagnosis and learning profile. We have specialist centres for pupils with profound multiple learning needs and also for pupils following the National Curriculum and a range of GCSE, BTEC and externally accredited pathways.

We, therefore, offer a range of Curriculum pathways each tailored to pupils’ needs and abilities delivered through our departmental and specialist centres. A number of our centres are in separate purpose-built accommodation on site.

We want our pupils to reach their potential and achieve as much independence as possible. Every pupil has, in addition to their curriculum targets, personal goals to optimise their use of Vision, Hearing and other Senses.
