Deputy Safeguarding Lead and Pastoral Assistant

Exeter SchoolDevon

Exeter School is the leading co-educational day school in the southwest, educating over 930 pupils aged 7-18. An HMC and IAPS school, situated on a 25-acre site near the city centre, our strong links to the local community, well-established pastoral care systems and fantastic teaching enable us to challenge, inspire and deliver the very best learning to our pupils.

We are now looking to appoint a Deputy Safeguarding Lead and Pastoral Assistant with immediate effect.

This is an important new role working closely with the DSL and safeguarding team to provide both targeted and general support and assistance to those pupils in need.  The successful applicant must be Safeguarding Level 3 trained and, essentially, have experience of working in senior safeguarding role in a school.   Empathy, understanding, and an ability to listen and talk to children are essential personal qualities as are the ability to establish and maintain good professional relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues whilst maintaining appropriate confidence of sensitive/personal information.  A good working knowledge of KCSIE is essential and experience of CPOMS or other safeguarding systems would be highly beneficial.

Specific qualifications, experience and/or training should be made clear on your application, and all will be advantageous in the application process.

This is a temporary, part-time position initially for the school academic year 2021-22.  Hours of work are three days a week 8.15am to 4.45pm including 30 minutes for lunch, during term time only, although there may be some flexibility, to be discussed at interview. Should the role be a success it is anticipated it will become a permanent position.

The role will attract a highly competitive salary appropriate for the responsibility of the post, dependent on qualifications and experience as well as generous benefits including a free school lunch during term time, free on-site parking (if space available) and an 8% employer contribution to the school’s approved pension scheme.

Closing date Friday 1st October 2021.  Interviews will be held on Friday 8th October with a desired start date as soon as possible. However, candidates may be shortlisted for interview as applications are received, so early application is highly recommended.

Completed application forms, together with a covering letter should be uploaded to the TES jobsite.  CVs alone will not be accepted.

Exeter School is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from any appropriately qualified person. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening, appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.  Employment is subject to the receipt of two satisfactory references provided specifically for this post and addressed to the School, and to satisfactory DBS clearance.
