Job overview

The Governors wish to appoint an enthusiastic, innovative, and caring teacher who is seeking to develop their leadership skills as Deputy SENCo. The successful candidate will work alongside our SENCo to create a teaching and learning environment where all pupils are fully included and where practice is adapted to meet individual needs. The Deputy SENCo will play a pivotal role in the whole school support of SEND pupils.

This post offers an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed teacher to work within a dedicated team. We welcome applicants from both Primary and Secondary school settings and appreciate the different skillsets you will bring to our school. Whilst a SENCo qualification would be an advantage, a willingness to undertake further training is essential.

Our school motto ‘Believe and Achieve’ represents our unwavering commitment towards our pupils and staff becoming the very best versions of themselves, achieving their full potential. As a school, we set our standards high and do not compromise.

The opportunity for personal development and progression at Hurstmere is key to our success. An active commitment to staff development through a strong and consistent focus and dialogue around teaching and learning pedagogy makes this an ideal position for candidates committed to being the best practitioner they can be.

Hurstmere School is a popular, non-selective secondary academy for boys aged 11 – 16, serving the local community of Sidcup. It is a special place, with a strong sense of community and a determination to succeed in all that we do. The school is committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all pupils and a “culture of vigilance” to safeguard and protect all in its care. There are policies and procedures in place, including safer recruitment procedures. All staff and volunteers are expected to uphold this safeguarding commitment. Offers of employment are subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, Online check and other employment checks.

Hurstmere offers a supportive and inclusive environment that celebrates and welcomes diversity. We expect everyone to have the highest expectations of themselves and of each other. Our pupils are expected to be ready to learn, to work hard and to celebrate their own and each other's achievements. We have staff who are devoted to providing the best education and pastoral care possible, and pupils of whom we are extremely proud; this mix creates a school that is a pleasure to work and learn in.

We are committed to a strong home-school partnership and believe the whole community can contribute to the progress of our pupils as they journey through Hurstmere School, to sixth form, apprenticeships, university, the workplace and beyond.
