Job overview

Trinity Academy Sowerby Bridge

Deputy SenCo

Scale: Leadership L1-L6

Actual Salary Scale:  £42,195 - £47,735

Trinity Academy Sowerby Bridge is a new academy that has been part of the Trinity Multi-Academy Trust since October 2018.  Our GCSE results over the last three years have validated the work we have already undertaken in the academy; the results our students have achieved means the academy can now be recognised as one of the most improved schools in the country.  However, our aspirations and ambitions are high - we are determined not to rest on our laurels and are always looking for ways to better serve our students.

All of these fantastic and exciting initiatives require the expertise and commitment of dedicated staff and Trinity Academy Sowerby Bridge now has an exciting and unique opportunity for a Deputy SENCO who can bring their specialist knowledge to our academy.

Our vision is for the Trinity Academy Sowerby Bridge SEND provision to be a hub of excellence, both in the local area and beyond.  To achieve this vision for our young people it is essential that, as a department, we ensure all our staff have a secure knowledge of the broad spectrum of SEND.  We have implemented rigorous quality assurance measures to ensure the gap between our SEND students and their non-SEND peers is narrowed so that every student realise their full potential, regardless of barriers.

Unique to Trinity Academy Sowerby Bridge is our ASC Resourced Provision.  The provision currently offers 10 places to ASC students with EHCPs, giving those students the opportunity to integrate and flourish in a mainstream secondary school.  The ASC Provision provides a fantastic opportunity to work alongside experienced staff both within school and within the local authority.  The ambition for the ASC Base mirrors the vision for SEND: to become a hub of excellence for autism.

We wish to recruit a high-performing individual with the strategic vision to raise standards of student attainment and achievement across the academy, working alongside the SENCO to provide strong leadership across our SEN provision.

What can we offer you?

  • An opportunity to be involved in the continued transformation of Trinity Academy Sowerby Bridge
  • Full support from a dedicated team of senior leaders and a large pastoral team
  • A first class Behaviour for Learning system
  • Excellent teaching resources
  • Career progression and cross-trust working
  • An excellent in-house CPD package for all staff, and a comprehensive programme of professional development provided through the Trinity Teaching School Alliance and West Yorkshire Maths Hub
  • A range of staff benefits, including a Cycle to Work scheme, reduced cost health cover and childcare support

We also recognise that, as a teenager, growing up can be a difficult time; a time at which our students may require varying levels of support.  We have invested heavily in our SEND team, which now includes the following positions:

  • ASC Lead Teacher
  • Learning Mentors
  • Teaching Assistants
  • Curriculum Tutors with subject specialisms
  • ARC Co-ordinator
  • SEND admin support

 What are we looking for?

  •  an excellent teacher with an interest in SEND
  • a commitment to achieving excellent results for students
  • a candidate with high expectations of themselves and others

You must be fully committed to optimising the opportunities available to children and young people, secure in the knowledge that you will be joining an ambitious forward-thinking Academy Trust.

If you feel you are not quite ready to be a Deputy SenCo but can demonstrate passion and potential to succeed in the role, we would still be interested in hearing from you.  We have a great track record of developing leadership in our staff.

Our vision is to be the most transformational academy in England.  If you would like to be part of our journey we look forward to hearing from you.

Start Date: To be confirmed

Closing Date: 9.00am, 27 January 2021

The Trinity MAT were first approached to work with the then Sowerby Bridge High School, when it had been graded as inadequate by Ofsted and had been ranked in the bottom 15% of all schools nationally.

After joining the MAT in 2018 the progress made has been outstanding. The academy has improved its Progress 8 outcome by 0.92 and the performance puts us comfortably in the top 1% of most improved schools in the country.

In September 2021 we will be adopting the new name of Trinity Academy Grammar to better communicate our identity, high standards and aspirations for our students. We have chosen a name which truly reflects our grammar school heritage, and to better showcase our core values of Empathy, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility, as we continue to build on this legacy through our outstanding achievements and passion to help our students reach their full potential.

It is a very exciting time to be considering joining Trinity Academy Grammar.  We can offer candidates the opportunity to work in partnership with the Principal and the senior leadership team, teachers in the school and other professionals across the trust (including the Teaching School and West Yorkshire Maths Hub).

The working environment is supported by committed, hardworking and supportive colleagues who are focused on improving outcomes for our students. Comprehensive pastoral systems are embedded to ensure the behaviour of students is outstanding and they are happy and supported in their learning.

As an academy we have high expectations of staff, we expect staff to challenge our students and themselves. We set high standards and aim to display these in all that we do. Working for Trinity Academy Sowerby Bridge is rewarding, we can offer a fantastic environment, excellent CPD programmes and a range of opportunities to progress. These ambitions are shared across all schools within the trust.
