Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative, and caring teacher who is seeking to develop their leadership skills as Deputy SENCo.  The successful candidate will work alongside our SENCo to create a teaching and learning environment where all students are fully included and where practice is adapted to meet individual needs.  The Deputy SENCo will play a pivotal role in the whole school support of SEND students.  In particular, they will:


  • Assist the SENCo in leading the provision for special educational needs within school, including the coordination of learning support staff
  • Manage SEND resources to ensure that they are used effectively to support the progress of SEND students
  • Develop curriculum resources to ensure that pupils with SEND have the necessary levels of support
  • Support the SENCo in monitoring and evaluating SEND provision, in order to sustain the effective teaching of pupils with SEND across the school leading to high quality outcomes
  • Contribute to in-service training for teachers and support staff


The Deputy SENCo will continue to maintain a teaching timetable in their subject as a mainstream teacher

To be considered for the  Deputy SENCo role, you will need the following experience/skills:

  • Ability to lead and manage staff confidently
  • Experience developing staff and resources within the school
  • Experience developing approaches to support SEND students in the classroom
  • Ability to strategically plan for responsibilities and duties
  • Have experience and knowledge of children with SEND needs (or a keen interest to learn)
  • Have taught as a qualified teacher for a minimum of 4 years

The appointed candidate will need to have obtained or be willing to obtain the NASENCo qualification within 2 years of their start date (which requires applicants to have QTS and a minimum of a second-class Bachelor's degree from a UK university or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard).
