Role Overview

The Design and Technology Mentor will deliver a rigorous, engaging curriculum aligned with the British National Curriculum (KS2 & KS3). The successful candidate will foster creativity, innovation, and technical skills through practical learning and will work closely with learners, colleagues, and families to support holistic development. Reporting to the Head of Secondary, this role contributes to our Project-Based Learning (PBL) approach and broader innovation strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Deliver high-quality Design and Technology lessons aligned with the KS2 & KS3 British National Curriculum.
  • Foster design thinking, problem-solving, and innovation through inquiry-based learning.
  • Teach across multiple areas, including product design, CAD/CAM, textiles, electronics, and sustainability.
  • Integrate digital technologies such as 3D printing, robotics, and coding into lessons.
  • Ensure safe and effective use of workshop tools and digital equipment.

Assessment and Learner Development

  • Use formative and summative assessment to track and support learner progress.
  • Provide feedback and maintain accurate records of achievement.
  • Support learners in developing digital and physical portfolios showcasing their skills.

Innovation and Collaboration

  • Contribute to the SPARK department’s real-world learning projects.
  • Collaborate across subjects for interdisciplinary learning experiences.
  • Engage in professional development to stay up to date with design education trends.

Community and Extra-Curricular Involvement

  • Lead or support extracurricular clubs, design competitions, or exhibitions.
  • Promote sustainability, entrepreneurship, and innovation through school initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience

  • BA, BEd, or PGCE in Design and Technology, Engineering, or related subject.
  • QTS through an accredited route.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience teaching British National Curriculum at KS2/KS3.
  • Skilled in CAD software, digital fabrication, and hands-on learning.
  • Experience with inquiry-based and project-based learning preferred.
