Job overview

Since March of 2022 Markham College has successfully returned to in person instruction of all classes and year groups. The video linked HERE  gives colour to the description below by showing our quality infrastructure and happy students.

At Markham College, we are committed to developing the personal, social and academic growth of every child. Our goal is for them to know they have a place in their future and the power to make a difference in society. Our innovative curriculum enjoys a strong reputation for its focus on personal growth, academic success and service.

Our practical subjects such as Design & Technology, Drama and Computer Studies form an integral part in supporting our curriculum goals, stretching over both our Primary and Secondary schools, contributing in particular to our bespoke IMPACT programme. IMPACT is a phenomenon-based curriculum that requires our children to ask, and answer, questions that do not have easy answers; such as “How would we respond to a loss of electricity?” This approach brings together our stated goals of personal, social and academic growth while connecting projects to our service and outdoor programmes here in Peru.

Our Outdoor Education Programme, simply put, is world-class and a major part of children’s experience here at Markham. It provides a wide range of opportunities for adventure, student leadership and connection to other cultures through a rich and varied international exchange programme. Our association with Round Square, the Duke of Edinburgh International Award and our own service programmes in Lima, mean our children and staff regularly work within our community and beyond to support our goal of making a positive difference to society.

A Markham teacher is one who is comfortable in a climate of change and innovative development. The successful candidate will demonstrate a genuine commitment to creating an inspiring and stimulating child-centred learning environment. Candidates need to be committed to ongoing school improvement and ‘doing things differently.’

A member of the Latin American Heads’ Conference (LAHC), International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) and the Round Square Organization, Markham College, Lima, is one of the leading independent schools in South America. Markham College is a not for profit organization governed by a Board of Governors. Our three campuses are situated in affluent districts on the outskirts of Miraflores and Monterrico in Lima.

We are looking for a class teacher who:

Is energetic, highly motivated and passionate about teaching and learning

Approaches school life with enthusiasm and a commitment to ‘make a difference’ to the children at Markham College

Is flexible, creative and enthusiastic

Delivers exciting and innovative lessons

Manages the diverse ability levels of students

Embraces each child as an individual and is able to manage diverse ability levels

Provides a safe, positive learning environment for children

Works with other adults to plan and coordinate learning both indoors and outdoors

Communicates with all other staff members who engage with children

Communicates regularly with parents as per school guidelines

Has experience using digital portfolios

Attends and contributes to continuous professional development

Has the ability to adapt to living in a South American country

Is aware of language and cultural differences when living in a country where English is not the dominant language

Successful candidates must hold a UK (or equivalent) teaching qualification and will be responsible for the teaching, learning and pastoral care of children.

Teachers and students alike benefit from the College’s close proximity to the ocean and access to the many beaches. Life in Lima is comfortable with modern living conditions and excellent restaurants.

Applications with a cover letter and a CV of no more than two pages should be uploaded to the school’s application system (https://jobs.markham.edu.pe ) no later than May 31st, 2022

Established in 1946, Markham College is a regional influence in South America  for educational leadership and academic excellence. We are an independent, non-profit, co-educational school that provides bilingual education to children from 3-18 years of age at our Miraflores and Surco campuses in Lima Peru.

Markham has a British heritage and international perspective. We have an adapted British Curriculum that respects our distinct Peruvian setting. Our Early Years bilingual programme starts at 3 years old and leads them towards IGCSE and the International Baccalaureate Diploma examinations. Our IB program, with over 29 courses, gives students the tools to succeed in universities world wide. We encourage diversity and support passion by allowing our students and staff to choose from over 100 different extracurricular activities and sports.

Our mission is to support children to become leaders in their chosen fields and be agents of change in Peru and the world. To achieve this, our curriculum is underpinned by the pillars of academic and creative endeavour, character development and service learning. Consequently, we have several features that make Markham special and unique. Our outdoor education programme and social programmes ensure that students receive a balanced and rounded education focusing on how they can make a difference in society. Furthermore, our student leadership programme means our children are a central part of the decision making process with regard to their learning experiences.

Markham teachers play a role in the pastoral care of our children. Supporting our students' emotional, psychological, and physical development as well as their academic growth throughout their Markham journey.

Peru´s rich cultural history and its amazing territory offers a wealth of opportunities for unforgettable experiences. Over 3000 km of Pacific Ocean coastline through the majestic Andean high peaks to the vast Amazon rainforest provide an infinite number of places, sports and adventures.

Markham is a non-profit school which allows us to offer salaries, infrastructure and materials that are aligned with international standards. Early Years and Primary are located on our Monterrico 27,778 m2 campus. Which houses our newest state-of-the-art educational facility which reflects the school's advanced pedagogic approach.

Markham has moved away from the traditional four-wall classroom, by developing flexible learning spaces that encourage independent learning in different environments. Teachers are developing new ways of working and collaborating across groups and disciplines in our ‘Learning Communities’ which give students at Markham more autonomy and choices in planning and executing their learning journey.
